Segment 1א׳

וְעָשָׁן דְּסָלִיק מִפּוּמַיְיהוּ בְּמִלֵּי דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, אִיהוּ עָשָׁן הַמַּעֲרָכָה, דִּמְסַדְּרִין לָהּ, וּמַעֲרִיכִין לָהּ לְגַבֵּי בַּעְלָהּ, כְּגוֹן (במדבר ח׳:ב׳) בְּהַעֲלוֹתְךָ אֶת הַנֵּרוֹת, דְּאִתְּמַר בְּהוֹן לְהַעֲלוֹת נֵר תָּמִיד. וּבְעָשָׁן הַמַּעֲרָכָה וְעָנָן הַקְּטֹרֶת, דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא עָשָׁן דִּילָהּ, יִתְעַר מִלִּבָּא, לְגַבֵּי חָכְמְתָא, דְּאִיהוּ כְּמוֹחָא, כְּגַוְונָא דַּעֲנָנָא. דְּאִתְעָרוּתָא דַּעֲנָנָא מִלִּבָּא, הֲדָא הוּא דִּכְתִיב (בראשית ב׳:ו׳) וְאֵד יַעֲלֶה מִן הָאָרֶץ, וּלְבָתַר וְהִשְׁקָה אֶת כָּל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה.

And the smoke that rises from their mouth in words of the Torah is the smoke of the pile of wood, which they set in order and arrange toward her husband — as in, “When you light the lamps” (Num. 8, 2), of which it is stated, “to cause a lamp to burn continually.” And by the smoke of the pile and the cloud of the incense — the Torah being her smoke — it is roused from the heart toward chochmah, which is like the brain, in the manner of a cloud; for the rousing of the cloud is from the heart. This is as it is written, “and there went up a mist from the earth” (Gen. 2, 6), and afterwards, “and watered the whole face of the ground.”

Segment 2ב׳

הָכִי יִתְעַר עָשָׁן, מִבִּינָה, דְּאִיהוּ בְּלִבָּא, דְּאוּקְמוּהָ לְגַבֵּיהּ, הַלֵּב מֵבִין. וְסָלִיק לְגַבֵי חָכְמָה, דְּאִיהִי (נ"א במוחא) כְּמוֹחָא. (ומאן) וּמַאי עָשָׁן. (דעת) דָּא, עַמּוּדָא דְּאֶמְצָּעִיתָא, דַּעַת, לֵב מֵבִין דַּעַת.

So is the smoke roused from binah, which is in the heart — of which they have explained, the heart understands — and it ascends toward chochmah, which is like the brain. And what is the smoke? (Da'at.) This is the Central Column, da'at: a heart that understands knowledge.

לְבָתַר דְּנָחִית עָשָׁן, חָכְמָה לְגַבֵי בִּינָה, דְּאִינּוּן דָּא לִשְׂמָאלָא, וְדָא לִימִינָא. אִיהוּ נָחִית מָלֵּא מֵאַבָּא וְאִימָּא, מָלֵּא י"ה, לְאוֹקְדָא עֵצִּים דְּאִינּוּן תַּלְמִידֵי חֲכָמִים, מִסִּטְרָא דְּעֵץ חַיִּים, דְּאִינּוּן אֵבָרִים דְּגוּפָא, דְּתַמָּן ה' הָעֵצִּים ודַּאי, לְאוֹקְדָא לוֹן בְּשַׁלְהוֹבִין דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, דְּאִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ (ירמיהו כ״ג:כ״ט) הֲלֹא כֹה דְבָרִי כָּאֵשׁ נְאֻם יְיָ'. בְּשַׁלְהוֹבִין דְּנֵר מִצְּוָה בִּרְחִימוּ. ע"כ (קנ"ז ע"ב תנאים ואמוראים וכו')

After the smoke has come down, chochmah toward binah — which are the one to the left and the other to the right — it comes down full from Father and Mother, full with Yod-He, to burn the wood, which are the disciples of the wise, from the side of the Tree of Life, who are the limbs of the body; for there the He is the wood, assuredly — to burn them with the flames of the Torah, of which it is stated, “Is not My word like fire? says the Lord” (Jer. 23, 29), with the flames of the lamp of the commandment, in love.
