Ra'aya Meheimna. (Pekudei, folio 260.) There is no leper save one who is made so through an issue. For there are five bloods of the blood of menstruation that are unclean, and all of them are unclean blood; and there are five bloods that are clean. And whoever transgresses against them, it is as though he transgressed against the Ten Words, which are the sum of the six hundred and thirteen commandments.
Segment 2
And the handmaid, the evil inclination, is full of blemishes. And therefore, “whatever man he be that has a blemish, he shall not approach” (Lev. 21, 18). And therefore the priest had no need to draw near to one in whom there is a blemish, of any blemish in the world; because of the Matrona it is stated, “You are all fair, my love, and there is no blemish in you” (S. S. 4, 7). So too one must not bring near to her one in whom there is a blemish; and so too a stranger must not draw near to her: “and the stranger that draws near shall be put to death” (Num. 3, 10). And this is mamzer — mum zar: the blemish is the female, the stranger is the male. And therefore He commanded, “And you shall not approach a woman in the uncleanness of her impurity” (Lev. 18, 19). And of those who drew near to her it is written, “And they offered strange fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. And there came forth fire from before the Lord, and consumed them, and they died.”
Segment 3
And the offering of the letters is this: Yod in the man, He in the woman, Vau in the son, the bridegroom, He in the bride. Happy is he who brings near the letters of the Tetragrammaton in himself and in his wife and in his son and in his daughter, in holiness and in blessing, in cleanness, in humility and in shamefacedness, with all the good qualities that are written concerning the Masters of the Mishnah.
