Section 10 of 30 in Tzav — 10 segments
Segment 1
It is written, “And, behold, the Lord passed by,” etc., “and a great and strong wind,” etc. (I Kings 19, 11). A great wind, as we have said. And it is written, “but the Lord was not in the wind.” “And after the wind an earthquake”, as it is written, “Then a spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing” (Ezek. 3, 12) — here the earthquake is after the wind. “And after the earthquake a fire”: this is as it is written, “A stream of fire issued and came forth from before Him,” etc. (Dan. 7, 10).
Segment 2
R. Isaac said: This is as it is written, “And the likeness of the living creatures: their appearance was like coals of fire, burning like the appearance of torches; it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning” (Ezek. 1, 13); “and after the fire a still small voice.” This voice is the last voice, which is silence, for it has no particular word of its own; rather, she is silence of herself. And when they are gathered upon her, she is heard in all the worlds, and they all tremble before her. “A still small voice”: why is she small? Because she is the smallest of all.
Segment 3
FIRE SHALL BE KEPT BURNING UPON THE ALTAR CONTINUALLY; IT SHALL NOT GO OUT. R. Hiya said: This fire is the fire of Isaac, who said (at the time of the binding), “Behold the fire and the wood” (Gen. 22, 7), which perpetually exists.
