Zohar, Shoftim 4
Section 4 of 5 in Shoftim — 2 segments
Segment 1
A precept after this one: to do to the scheming witness as he had purposed to do to his brother. The two false witnesses, who are Samael and the serpent — if they come to bear false testimony against Israel, that they erred between Vau and Zayin, which are the letters zu. And this is: “The people which I formed for Myself, that they might tell My praise” (Isa. 43, 21).
Segment 2
And Vau is not united with Zayin except in the burning of leaven, which falls between Vau and Zayin. And although by the law of the Torah it is until the end of the sixth hour, the Rabbis decreed: they eat throughout the fourth hour, they leave it in suspense throughout the fifth, and they burn it at the beginning of the sixth. And the sages of the Mishnah learn from the testimony of the hours of leaven to the testimony of the examination of witnesses, in the case of one who has killed a person. And all of it is set out in the Mishnah. And there will be fulfilled in them: “for by the thing in which the Egyptians schemed to judge them,” etc. And this is “then shall you do to him as he had purposed.”
