Segment 1
Again he opened and said, “Get up onto a high mountain, O you who bring good tidings to Zion,” etc. (Isa. 40, 9). “Upon a high mountain”: this is certainly Mount Abarim, the place where Moses was buried. And it has been explained that the Shekinah shall go up there and bring tidings to the world. But all is one: “you who bring good tidings to Zion” — this is Hephzibah, the wife of Nathan the son of David. She is the mother of the Messiah, Menahem the son of Ammiel; and she shall go out and bring the tidings, and she is included in “you who bring good tidings to Zion”.
Segment 2
A voice shall be heard in the world, and two kings shall be roused in the world to make war, and the Holy Name shall go forth over the world. What shall she proclaim, and what shall she say? “Behold, the Lord God will come as a Mighty One, and His arm will rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him” (Isa. 40, 10). “Behold, His reward is with Him”: for the Holy One, blessed be He, makes proclamation in all the household above, and says to them: Gather, and judge judgement. He who gave up his soul for the sanctification of My Name — what is his reward? And they shall say: Thus and thus. He who bore many revilings and blasphemings every day for My sake — what is his reward? They say: Thus. He who was punished every day for My sake — what is his reward? They say: Thus. This is what is written, “Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.”
Segment 3
What is “His recompense”? But as it is written, “How abundant is Your goodness,” etc. (Ps. 31, 20). “Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You”: this is “His recompense”. What is “in the sight of the sons of men”? But over against the worshippers of stars and constellations. “Which You have laid up for those who fear You” — what is “which You have laid up”? And who would rob and take from His hands what He wishes to give, that it is written “You have laid up”?
