Section 31 of 46 in Sh'lach — 3 segments

Segment 1

O holy pious one, come and I will disclose to you a hidden matter. The building of the body of a man is thus: the spirit from the holy spirit (Yitro, folio 73; folio 99b; folio 236b); the soul from within the Tree of Life. Once the holy spirit has given power, at once its chariots give their power. Their power is the bones and the limbs, all of them from their side, and their setting in order one upon the other. The other side gave the flesh, and from its side comes flesh, and nothing else. Its chariots give all those sinews and veins, to draw blood to the flesh. After these have given their power, the heavens give their power; and what are they? The skin that is drawn over all, in the same way as theirs.

Segment 2

Afterwards heaven and earth are joined together, and they give these four elements: fire and water and air and dust, to shield these and to cover over all. Afterwards each one takes back the portion that it gave, and it is annulled. The holy spirit and its chariots — their portion stands. The holy spirit: its spirit stands, and the soul goes up. The chariots of the holy spirit: their bones stand. And therefore they reckoned that the body was the bones. And therefore it is written, “And He will make your bones strong” (Isa. 58, 11); and of the flesh it is not written so.

Segment 3

And all the time that the flesh of the other side stands in its being, that Satan stands to accuse. Once the flesh is lost, he has no permission to accuse, for he has nothing on which to lean. And therefore it is written, “His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones are worn away, they are not seen” (Job 33, 21) — from that sight of Satan, who stands to accuse and cannot, once “his flesh is consumed away”. “And his bones are worn away, they are not seen”: they are not seen as fit for him to draw near to, for he has no portion in them; once each and every one has been worn from its place, he does not claim against them, and does not stand to accuse on their account. After the flesh is consumed, see, he will not claim judgement, and does not stand to accuse, for he has nothing on which to lean; and the man is not remembered in any matter in the world. R. Simeon said: Now I know the words upon their true ground; certainly it is fitting for him to accuse.
