Segment 1

Now, Rabbi, let us return to the first words; and when we return to our places we shall take permission from the Head of the Academy for those words that we receive from him, and we shall say them before you. Happy is your portion, that you are found worthy of hidden lights from every side, from above and from below, from this world and from the other world. R. Simeon said: There is one word I want to know, if you are able to make it known to me. Women in that world — are they found worthy to ascend on high, or how are they there? He said to him: Ah, Rabbi, ah, Rabbi, in this we have a further mystery (a variant reads: precious), because the secrets of that place are not to be disclosed; but for this let one go and take permission, and we shall tell you. Meanwhile one of them flew away and was hidden from them, and went off.

Segment 2

And in a moment he returned to them. He said to them: I was ready to enter, and they were all in one assembly, judging the case of a certain man who was standing at the door of the Garden of Eden; and those cherubim were holding him, and did not let him enter there. And he was in distress among them, and cried out cries at the door, and all the righteous who were there heard him. And now all the sons of the Academies were gathering to enter in to the King Messiah, to look into his judgement. And I have come to make it known to you; and this Companion of mine must go there, for a herald was passing among all those sons of the Academies that they should be gathered now before the Messiah. He took a note and gave it to R. Simeon. He said: Take this, and look into what is in it, until we come to you. The two of them flew away.

Segment 3

And R. Simeon took the note, and saw what he saw in the mysteries that were there, all that day. At night he saw a lamp, and sleep fell upon him, and he slept until the morning. When the day grew light, he rose, and that note had flown away from him; and here were the two of them coming. He said to him: Rise, Rabbi, happy is your portion, rise. For your sake we have seen and have been found worthy of many supernal secrets. How much joy they showed us, when they gave permission to disclose to you all that you desire! The Head of the celestial Academy came out to us and said: Ask after the welfare of the son of Yohai. The place of the son of Yohai — see, they have cleared it for him these many days. There is none who may draw near to it. Happy is he.
