Section 79 of 129 in Pinchas — 8 segments
Segment 1
The Yod which Phineas merited — because he was zealous for the covenant, he merited the covenant. And there are two Yods: the supernal Yod is of the Tetragrammaton, with which He made the covenant with Abraham between the ten fingers of the hands; the small Yod is of Adonai, with which He made the covenant between the ten toes of the feet. And it is the holy letter, which is crowned with the supernal impress.
Segment 2
And this is marked always, forever. It is the sign of the Sabbath, the sign of the phylacteries, the sign of the festivals, the sign of Shaddai, which is marked “upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gates” (Deut. 6, 9): that Israel may be marked with it — in their straps, in their covenant, for they are the sons of the Matrona, the sons of the palace of the holy King — and in the Torah. They are marked with the supernal letter Yod, for they are the sons of the supernal King, as has been explained. And behold, it has been said, “You are the children of the Lord your God” (Deut. 14, 1).
Segment 3
And the letter Yod of Shaddai is the link of the chain upon the neck of the demon, the evil inclination, so that it may not harm a man. Of him David said, “Deliver my soul from the sword, my only one from the power of the dog” (Ps. 22, 21). He is a serpent, he is a dog, he is a lion. Of him David said, “He lies in wait in a secret place as a lion in his lair.” And the prophet called him a bear; this is what is written, “He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places” (Lam. 3, 10). “He is like the beasts” (Ps. 49, 13): he is likened to all the unclean beasts, those that tear their prey; he takes on a likeness for every man according to his sins. And behold, this has been said.
