Segment 1
“And in the first month” — which is the first? This is Nisan. There that creature gives birth, to fulfil what the sages of the Mishnah have explained: in Nisan they were redeemed, and in Nisan they are destined to be redeemed. And on its fourteenth — “And he said: The hand (yad) upon the throne of Yah” (Ex. 17, 16) — there He swore to remove from the world the seed of Esau, the Amalekites. At that time, “Draw out, and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and kill the passover lamb” (Ex. 12, 21). “Draw out”: “He draws out his hand with scorners” (Hos. 7, 5).
Segment 2
At that time, “Thus says the Lord to the shepherds who transgress against Me”; and it says, “neither shall they enter into the land of Israel” (Ezek. 13, 9). And these are the shepherds of the flock, the leaders of the generation. And therefore it is said of them, “Behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness” (Hos. 2, 16); “and I will plead with you,” etc., “as I pleaded with your fathers” (Ezek. 20, 36) — whom He slew in the plague of darkness. (End of Ra'aya Meheimna)
Segment 3
“And in the first month” (Num. 28, 16) — what is the first month? This is the month in which this creature is revealed and grows strong, and goes out into the world on the fourteenth day. On the fourteenth: these are the other creatures, which are ten, ten to each side, in the four sides of the world. And in the books of the ancients: it is ten, and one to each side, for the four sides, and they are fourteen. As soon as those four are joined and set in order with those ten which are on the side of the right, then fourteen, in joy, to set this creature in order (a variant reads: to set in order the moon, this creature) in her proper array.
