Segment 1א׳

היכל עצּם השמים הו"ד הֵיכָלָא תִּנְיָינָא הֵיכָלָא דָּא, קַיְּימָא גּוֹ רָזָא דִּמְהֵימְנוּתָא, לְאִתְאַחֲדָא בְּרָזָא דִּלְעֵילָּא. הַאי הֵיכָלָא, טָמִיר וְגָנִיז יַתִיר מִן קַדְמָאָה. בְּהֵיכָלָא דָּא, אִית תְּלַת פִּתְחִין, וְחַד שַׁמָשָׁא מְמָנָא עָלַיְיהוּ, אוּרְפָנִי"אֵל שְׁמֵיהּ. הַאי מְמָנָא, שַׁלִּיט עַל תְּלַת סִטְרֵי עָלְמָא, דָּרוֹם וְצָפוֹן וּמִזְרָח. דָּרוֹם מֵהַאי סִטְרָא, וְצָפוֹן מֵהַאי סִטְרָא, וּמִזְרָח בְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא.

The Palace of the Substance of Heaven — hod (majesty). The second palace. This palace stands within the mystery of faith, to be united with the mystery above. This palace is hidden and concealed more than the first. In this palace there are three doors, and one minister is appointed over them, Urpaniel is his name. This chieftain rules over three sides of the world: south and north and east. South on this side, and north on that side, and east at the centre.

Segment 2ב׳

אִלֵּין תְּלַת פִּתְחִין, לִתְלַת סִטְרִין אִלֵּין. תְּרֵין סְתִימִין, וְחַד בְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא פָּתִיחַ, בְּרָזָא דִּכְתִיב, (שמות כ״ד:י׳) וּכְעֶצֶם הַשָּׁמַיִם לָטֹהַר. הַאי מְמָנָא אִתְפְּקַד וְקַיְּימָא בְּהַהוּא פִּתְחָא דְּאִיהוּ פָּתִיחַ, וּתְחוֹת יְדֵיהּ תְּרֵין מְמָנָן אַחֲרָנִין, דִּמְמָנָן עַל אִינּוּן פִּתְחִין אַחֲרָנִין סְתִימִין.

These three doors are for these three sides. Two are closed, and one at the centre is open, in the mystery of what is written, “and like the substance of heaven for clearness” (Ex. 24, 10). This chieftain is appointed and stands at that door which is open, and beneath his hand are two other chieftains, who are appointed over those other closed doors.

Segment 3ג׳

וְכָל אִינּוּן נִשְׁמָתִין, דְּאִינּוּן קְטוּלֵי בֵּית דִּין, אוֹ אִינּוּן קְטוּלֵי שְׁאַר עַמִּין, כֻּלְּהוּ אִתְמָנָן תְּחוֹת יְדֵיהוֹן, וְהַאי מְמָנָא דְּעָלַיְיהוּ, חָקִיק לוֹן לְדִיּוּקְנֵיהוֹן בִּלְבוּשׁוֹי, דְּאִינּוּן נוּר דָּלִיק, וְסָלִיק לוֹן לְעֵילָּא, וְאַחְמֵי לוֹן לְמָארֵיהּ, וּכְדֵין נָטִיל לוֹן, וְחָקִיק לוֹן בְּפוּרְפּוּרוֹי, לְאִינּוּן קְטוּלֵי שְׁאַר עַמִּין.

And all those souls that are slain by the court, or those slain by the rest of the nations, are all appointed beneath their hands. And this chieftain who is over them engraves their likenesses upon his garments, which are burning fire, and raises them on high, and shows them to his Master; and then he takes them and engraves them upon his purple robe — those slain by the rest of the nations.

Segment 4ד׳

וְאִינּוּן קְטוּלֵי בֵּית דִּין, נָחִית לוֹן הַאי מְמָנָא, וְאָעִיל לוֹן בָּתַר אִינּוּן תְּרֵין פִּתְחִין סְתִימִין, דְּאִינּוּן תְּרֵין מְמָנָן אַחֲרָנִין קַיְימִין עָלַיְיהוּ, וְתַמָּן חָמָאן יְקָרָא דְּכָל אִינּוּן דְּקַיְימוּ אוֹרַיְיתָא, וְנָטְרוּ פִּקּוֹדוֹי, וְאִינּוּן כְּסִיפִין בְּגַרְמַיְיהוּ, וְנִכְוִין מֵחוּפָּה דִּלְהוֹן. עַד דְּהַאי מְמָנָא דְּקַיְּימָא עָלַיְיהוּ, פָּתַח לוֹן תַּרְעָא דְּמִזְרָח, וְנָהִיר לוֹן, וְיָהִיב לוֹן חַיִּים דְּאִתְפָּתָחוּ בְּהַהוּא תַּרְעָא דְּמִזְרָח. וּבִידָא דְּהַהוּא מְמָנָא חַד כַּסָּא דְּחַיִּין, דְּאִיהוּ מַלְיָא נְהוֹרִין, וְהַאי אִקְרֵי כּוֹס תַּנְחוּמִין, כַּסָא דְּחַיֵּי. (נ"א ונהיר ויהיב לון חיים) דְּהָא בְּגִין כַּסָּא אַחֲרָא דְּשָׁתוּ בְּקַדְמִיתָא, זָכוּ לְהַאי.

And those slain by the court, this chieftain brings down, and brings them in behind those two closed doors, over which those two other chieftains stand. And there they see the glory of all those who upheld the Torah and kept His commandments; and they are ashamed in themselves, and are scorched by their canopy. Until this chieftain who stands over them opens for them the gate of the east, and gives them light, and gives them life, so that they are opened in that gate of the east. And in the hand of that chieftain is one cup of life, which is full of lights; and this is called the cup of consolation, the cup of life (a variant reads: and he gives them light and gives them life). For it was on account of another cup which they drank first that they merited this.

Segment 5ה׳

כְּגַוְונָא דָּא אִית בְּסִטְרָא אַחֲרָא, בְּהֵיכָלָא דִּמְסָאֲבָא, מְמָנָא אַחֲרָא, וּבִידֵיהּ כּוֹס דְּאִקְרֵי (ויקרא י"ב ע"ב, רס"ד ע"א) כּוֹס תַּרְעֵלָה, כּוֹס חֲמָתוֹ. כְּמָה דְּתָנֵינָן, אִית יַיִן וְאִית יַיִן, הָכִי נָמֵי אִית כּוֹס וְאִית כּוֹס, וְכֹלָּא, דָּא לְטָב, וְדָא לְבִישׁ. יַיִן לְטָב, דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים ק״ד:ט״ו) וְיַיִן יְשַׂמַּח לְבַב אֱנוֹשׁ. וְיַיִן לְבִישׁ, דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים ע״ה:ט׳) וְיַיִן חָמַר מָלֵא מֶסֶךְ וְגוֹ'. כּוֹס לְטָב, דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים קט״ז:י״ג) כּוֹס יְשׁוּעוֹת אֶשָּׂא. כּוֹס לְבִישׁ, דִּכְתִּיב, (ישעיהו נ״א:י״ז) כּוֹס חֲמָתוֹ כּוֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָה.

In like manner there is on the other side, in the palace of uncleanness, another chieftain, and in his hand a cup that is called (Vayikra, folio 12b; folio 264a) the cup of staggering, the cup of His fury. As we have learnt: there is wine and there is wine; so too there is a cup and there is a cup, and all of it — this for good and that for ill. Wine for good, as it is written, “and wine that makes glad the heart of man” (Ps. 104, 15). And wine for ill, as it is written, “and the wine foams, full of mixture,” etc. (Ps. 75, 9). A cup for good, as it is written, “I will lift up the cup of salvation” (Ps. 116, 13). A cup for ill, as it is written, “the cup of His fury, the cup of staggering” (Is. 51, 17).
