Section 7 of 30 in Mishpatim — 7 segments
Segment 1
And now that you have returned in repentance and have cleaved to the Tree of Life, you have gone out from servant and have become a son to the Holy One, blessed be He. And the rod delivered into your hand shall be a tree of life — Vau, which is the son of Yod-He. And you shall enter with your forty-nine faces into the Torah, and it shall be made a bar, and there shall be fulfilled in you, “He will never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Ps. 55, 23). Forty-nine faces are the forty-nine letters of “Hear, O Israel” and “Blessed be the Name”: six words of the supernal unification — the supernal Vau, tiferet (beauty); the second six words, of “Blessed be the Name” — the second Vau, the Righteous One. Forty-nine. In the middle, Aleph: “and they bore it upon a pole between two”.
Segment 2
Without the Vau in the middle it is forty-nine. “And a righteous man gives way before the wicked” (Prov. 25, 26). And what diminished this? The Aleph — one out of fifty; for fifty gates were given to you, less one, as the sages of the Mishnah have explained: fifty gates of binah were delivered to Moses, save one. And this is the Aleph that is lacking from the fifty, and forty-nine remained; and this caused you “a righteous man gives way before the wicked”. What is “the wicked”? This is Samael.
Segment 3
And this forty-nine is from your rod, of which it is said, “and the rod of God in my hand” (Ex. 17, 9). Your rod is the rod of Moses; and therefore the Aleph, which is binah, returns to you, as has been explained in the Mishnah: Aleph is binah. For it returned to you in repentance, and it shall enter between Vau and Vau, and Vau-Aleph-Vau is made, to fulfil in you, for Israel, “and with great compassion will I gather you” (Isa. 54, 7). From then onward there shall be fulfilled in you, “He will never suffer the righteous to be moved”.
