Segment 1א׳

(ויקרא י״ד:א׳-ב׳) וַיְדַבֵּר יְיָ' אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵאמֹר. זֹאת תִּהְיֶה תּוֹרַת הַמְּצוֹרָע בְּיוֹם טָהֳרָתוֹ וְגוֹ'. רִבִּי אַבָּא פָּתַח, (ספרי שמות כ"ו ע"א) (איוב י״ט:כ״ט) גּוּרוּ לָכֶם מִפְּנֵי חֶרֶב כִּי חֵמָה עֲוֹנוֹת חָרֶב לְמַעַן תֵּדְעוּן שַׁדּוּן. שַׁדּוּן, שַׁדִּין כְּתִיב. כַּמָה אִית לוֹן לִבְנֵי נָשָׁא לְאִסְתַּמְּרָא אָרְחַיְיהוּ וּלְדַחֲלָא מִקַּמֵּי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, דְּלָא יִסְטֵי מֵאָרְחָא דְּכַשְׁרָא, וְלָא יַעֲבוֹר עַל פִּתְגָּמֵי אוֹרַיְיתָא, וְלָא יִתְנְשֵׁי מִנָּהּ.

AND THE LORD SPOKE TO MOSES, SAYING: THIS SHALL BE THE LAW OF THE LEPER ON THE DAY OF HIS CLEANSING, ETC. (Lev. 14, 1-2). R. Abba opened: “Be afraid of the sword, for wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that you may know there is judgement” (Job 19, 29). Shaddun: shaddin (demons) is written. How greatly people need to guard their ways and to fear before the Holy One, blessed be He, so that a man does not stray from the right path, and does not transgress the words of the Torah, and is not forgetful of it.

Segment 2ב׳

דְּכָל מַאן דְּלָא לָעֵי בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, וְלָא יִשְׁתְּדַל בָּה, נְזִיפָא הוּא מְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, רְחִיקָא הוּא מִנֵּיהּ, לָא שַׁרְיָא שְׁכִינְתָּא עִמֵּיהּ. וְאִינּוּן נְטוּרִין, דְּאַזְלִין עַמֵּיהּ, אִסְתְּלָקוּ מִנֵּיהּ, וְלֹא עוֹד אֶלָּא דְּמַכְרְזֵי קָמֵיהּ וְאַמְרֵי, אִסְתְּלָקוּ סוֹחֲרָנֵיהּ דִּפְלַנְיָא, דְּלָא חָשׁ עַל יְקָרָא דְּמָארֵיהּ. וַוי לֵיהּ, דְּהָא שַׁבְקוּהוּ עִלָּאִין וְתַתָּאִין. לֵית לֵיהּ חוּלָקָא בְּאָרְחָא דְּחַיֵּי.

For whoever does not labour in the Torah and does not strive in it is under rebuke from the Holy One, blessed be He; he is far from Him; the Shekinah does not rest with him. And those guardians that walk with him depart from him. And not only that, but they proclaim before him and say: ‘Depart from about so-and-so, who has no care for the honour of his Master.’ Woe to him, for the upper ones and the lower ones have forsaken him. He has no portion in the way of life.

Segment 3ג׳

וְכַד אִיהוּ אִשְׁתָּדַּל בְּפוּלְחָנָא דְּמָארֵיהּ, וְלָעֵי בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, כַּמָה נְטוּרִין זְמִינִין לָקֳבְלֵיהּ לְנַטְרָא לֵיהּ, וּשְׁכִינְתָּא שַׁרְיָא עָלֵיהּ, וְכֹלָּא מַכְרְזֵי קַמֵּיהּ וְאַמְרֵי, הָבוּ יְקָרָא לְדִיּוּקְנָא דְּמַלְכָּא, הָבוּ יְקָרָא לִבְרֵיהּ דְּמַלְכָּא, אִתְנְטִיר הוּא בְּעָלְמָא דֵּין וּבְעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי, זַכָּאָה חוּלָקֵיהּ.

And when he strives in the service of his Master and labours in the Torah, how many guardians are made ready before him to guard him, and the Shekinah rests upon him; and all proclaim before him and say: ‘Give honour to the image of the King, give honour to the son of the King.’ He is guarded in this world and in the world to come. Happy is his portion.
