Segment 1א׳

וְאִלֵּין שְׁפָחוֹת נָכְרִיּוֹת, מִסִּטְרָא דְּסַם הַמָּוֶת, נוּקְבָּא דְּסָמָאֵל. דְּשִׁפְחָה הֲוַת לְמַטְרוֹנִיתָא. נוּקְבָּא וְסָמָאֵל אֵל אַחֵר, עֶבֶד הֲוָה לֵיהּ לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, לְבָתַר דַּעֲבִידוּ גַּרְמַיְיהוּ אֱלוֹהוּת, וְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא עָתִיד לְאַעְבָּר לוֹן מֵעָלְמָא, וּלְמִמְחֵי לוֹן.

And these alien handmaids are from the side of the poison of death, the female of Samael, for she was a handmaid to the Matrona. The female, and Samael — another god — he was a servant to the Holy One, blessed be He, until they made themselves divinities; and the Holy One, blessed be He, is destined to remove them from the world and to blot them out.

Segment 2ב׳

וְאִי תֵּימְרוּן, אִי בְּנֵי נָשָׁא עַבְדִּין לוֹן אֱלֹהוּת, וְלָא בִּרְעוּתָא דִּלְהוֹן, אֲמַאי אִתְעֲנָשׁוּ. אֶלָּא כַּד הֲווֹ דּוֹר הַמַּבּוּל וְדוֹר הַפְלָגָה יַדְעֵי בְּהוֹן, וַהֲווּ מְקַטְרְגִין (נ"א מקטרין) לוֹן, וְסַגְדִּין לוֹן, וּבְהַהוּא חֵילָא דַּהֲווֹ מְקַטְרְגִין (נ"א מקטרין) לוֹן, וְסַגְדִּין לוֹן, הֲווֹ נַחְתֵּי לְגַבַּיְיהוּ, וְעַבְדֵי רְעוּתַיְיהוּ, וּמְמַלְּלָן בְּהוֹן בְּאִינּוּן צוּלְמִין, הָא אִתְעָבִידוּ אֱלוֹהוּת וְעֲבוֹדַת כּוֹכָבִים וּמַזָּלוֹת. בְּגִין דָּא, קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא עָתִיד לְאַעְבְּרָא לוֹן, וְיִמְחֵי לוֹן מֵעָלְמָא, צוּלְמִין דִּלְהוֹן דַּהֲווֹ פַּלְחִין בְּהוֹן, וְאִשְׁתַּאֲבוּ מִנְּהוֹן רוּחִין וְצוּלְמִין.

And should you say: if human beings made them into divinities, and not by their own will, why were they punished? But when the generation of the Flood and the generation of the dispersion knew of them, they made accusation before them (a variant reads: burned incense to them) and bowed down to them; and by that power with which they made accusation before them and bowed down to them, they would come down to them and do their will and speak within those images — behold, they were made into divinities and into a worship of stars and constellations. Therefore the Holy One, blessed be He, is destined to remove them and to blot them out of the world: their images, which they worshipped, and the spirits and the images that drew from them.

Segment 3ג׳

וְכַד אִית בְּעָלְמָא עֵרֶב רַב, נַחְתִּין לְאִתְגַּשְּׁמָא בְּהוֹן, וְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא יַעְבַּר לוֹן מִן עָלְמָא, הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (זכריה י״ג:ב׳) וְאֶת רוּחַ הַטּוּמְאָה אַעֲבִיר מִן הָאָרֶץ. וְאִי תֵּימְרוּן, בְּזִמְנָא דְּגָלוּתָא בַּתְרָאָה, לֵית עֲבוֹדַת כּוֹכָבִים וּמַזָּלוֹת, בְּגִין דְּלָא יַדְעִין בְּנֵי עָלְמָא בְּהוֹן. וְאִינּוּן דְּיַדְעִין בְּעֵרֶב רַב תַּמָּן, אִשְׁתְּכַח לוֹן דְּמַכְעִיסִין לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא וּשְׁכִינְתֵּיהּ, וְיִשְׂרָאֵל בֵּינַיְיהוּ, וְעֵרֶב רַב מַצְלִיחִין בְּהוֹן, לְקַיֵּים מַאי דִּכְתִּיב, (דברים ז׳:י׳) וּמְשַׁלֵּם לְשׂוֹנְאָיו אֶל פָּנָיו לְהַאֲבִידוֹ.

And when there is a mixed multitude in the world, they come down to be made corporeal in them; and the Holy One, blessed be He, will remove them from the world. That is what is written, “and I will cause the unclean spirit to pass out of the land” (Zech. 13, 2). And should you say that in the time of the last exile there is no worship of stars and constellations, because the people of the world do not know of them — those who do know of them are found there among the mixed multitude, angering the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shekinah, with Israel among them; and the mixed multitude prosper through them, to fulfil what is written, “and repays them that hate Him to their face, to destroy them” (Deut. 7, 10).
