Segment 1

And the Shekinah is levanah, the moon — libbun, the whitening of the halachah — mercy, from the side of chesed (lovingkindness). And she is called chamah, the sun, “clear as the sun”, from the side of gevurah: the face of Moses was as the face of the sun. The darkened moon, the diminution of the moon: her handmaid is Gehinnom, an evil sun; his handmaid is Shabbethai, the eclipse of the lights, the profanation of the Sabbath. A handmaid, who turns her back upon her mistress every single day and prevails over her through the sins of Israel, her children. That is what is written, “and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress” (Prov. 30, 23). For the dominion of the handmaid is only on the second day, in Gehinnom, and on the fourth, in the eclipse of the lights; and she returns to rule on every single day.

Segment 2

And the daughter of the King is bound in fetters, in the prison-house, in her exile. And she is the nest of Samael among the stars. And the Holy One, blessed be He, swears, “Though you make your nest as high as the eagle, and though you set it among the stars, I will bring you down from there, says the Lord” (Obad. 1, 4). And the Shekinah is nogah, brightness, and brightness belongs to fire; and from here they called the synagogue esh nogah, a fire of brightness.

Segment 3

The fire of Ma'adim is a term of odem, redness: “a row of odem, carnelian, topaz” (Ex. 28, 17). Nogah is white fire. And the two of them are the face of the sun and the face of the moon, netzach and hod, which took whiteness from chesed and redness from gevurah. Aaron and David were from there: one took mercy and one took judgement. David from the left side — “and he was ruddy” (I Sam. 16); Aaron, a man of chesed. And both of them, the true prophets, are from there. The face of Moses shone with the prophecy of binah; he is the supernal sun (the Mother), and from there is his prophecy.
