Segment 1א׳

תָּאנָא בְּהַהוּא יוֹמָא דְּרִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן בָּעָא לְאִסְתַּלְּקָא מִן עָלְמָא וַהֲוָה מְסַדֵּר מִלּוֹי. אִתְכְּנָשׁוּ חַבְרַיָּא לְבֵי רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן. וַהֲווּ קָמֵי רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ וְרִבִּי אַבָּא וּשְׁאָר חַבְרַיָּא. וַהֲוָה מַלְיָא בֵיתָא. זָקִיף עֵינוֹי רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וַחֲמָא דְאִתְמְלֵי בֵיתָא. בָּכָה רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וְאָמַר. בְּזִמְנָא אַחֲרָא כַּד הֲוֵינָא בְּבֵי מַרְעֵי, הֲוָה רִבִּי פִּנְחָס בֶּן יָאִיר קַמָּאי. וְעַד דְּבָרִירְנָא דּוּכְתָּאי אוֹרִיכוּ לִי עַד הַשְׁתָּא. וְכַד תַּבְנָא אַסְחַר אֶשָׁא מִקָּמָּאי וּמֵעַלְמִין לָא אִתְפְּסָק. וְלָא הֲוָה עָאל בַּר נָשׁ אֶלָּא בִרְשׁוּתָא. וְהַשְׁתָּא חֲמֵינָא דְּאִתְפְּסַק וְהָא אִתְמְלֵי בֵיתָא.

It has been taught: on that day when R. Simeon was about to depart from the world, and was setting his affairs in order, the Companions gathered at the house of R. Simeon. Before him were R. Eleazar his son, and R. Abba, and the rest of the Companions, and the house was full. R. Simeon lifted up his eyes and saw that the house had filled. R. Simeon wept and said: At another time, when I was on my sickbed, R. Phineas ben Jair was before me; and when I had chosen my place, they granted me more time until now. And when I returned, fire circled before me, and it has never ceased, and no man would enter except with permission. And now I see that it has ceased, and behold, the house has filled.

Segment 2ב׳

עַד דַּהֲווֹ יַתְבֵי. פָּתַח עֵינוֹי רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וְחָמָא מַה דְּחָמָא וְאַסְחַר אֶשָׁא בְּבֵיתָא. נָפְקוּ כֻלְּהוּ וְאִשְׁתְּאֲרוּ רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ וְרִבִּי אַבָּא. וּשְׁאָר חַבְרַיָּא יָתְבוּ אַבַּרָאי. אָמַר רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן לְרִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ, פּוּק חֲזֵי אִי הָכָא רִבִּי יִצְחָק דְּאֲנָא מְעָרַבְנָא לֵיהּ. אִימָא לֵיהּ דִּיסַדֵּר מִלּוֹי וְיֵתִיב לְגַבָּאי זַכָּאָה חוּלָקֵיהּ.

While they were sitting, R. Simeon opened his eyes and saw what he saw, and fire encircled the house. All of them went out, and R. Eleazar his son and R. Abba remained, and the rest of the Companions sat outside. R. Simeon said to R. Eleazar his son: Go out and see if R. Isaac is here, for I am surety for him. Tell him to set his affairs in order and sit by me. Happy is his portion.

Segment 3ג׳

קָם רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וְיָתִיב וְחַיִּיךְ וְחַדֵּי. אָמַר אָן אִנּוּן חַבְרַיָּא. קָם רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר וְאָעִיל לוֹן וְיַתְבוּ קָמֵיהּ. זָקִיף יְדוֹי רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וּמְצַלֵּי צְלוֹתָא וַהֲוָה חַדֵּי וְאָמַר. אִנּוּן חַבְרַיָּא דְאִשְׁתְּכָחוּ בְבֵי אִדָּרָא יִזְדַּמְּנוּן הָכָא. נָפְקוּ כֻלְּהוּ וְאִשְׁתְּאֲרוּ רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ וְרִבִּי אַבָּא וְרִבִּי יְהוּדָה וְרִבִּי יוֹסֵי וְרִבִּי חִיָּיא. אַדְּהָכִי עָאל רִבִּי יִצְחָק. אָמַר לֵיהּ רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן כַּמָּה יֵאוֹת חוּלָקָךְ כַּמָּה חֵידוּ בָעֵי לְאִתּוֹסְפָא לָךְ בְּהָאי יוֹמָא. יָתִיב רִבִּי אַבָּא בָּתַר כִּתְפוֹי וְרִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר קָמֵיהּ.

R. Simeon rose and sat, and laughed and rejoiced. He said: Where are the Companions? R. Eleazar rose and brought them in, and they sat before him. R. Simeon lifted up his hands and prayed a prayer, and was joyful, and said: Those Companions who were present at the house of the Assembly shall be present here. All of them went out, and there remained R. Eleazar his son, and R. Abba, and R. Judah, and R. Jose, and R. Hiya. Meanwhile R. Isaac entered. R. Simeon said to him: How fitting is your portion! How much joy is to be added to you this day! R. Abba sat behind his shoulders, and R. Eleazar before him.
