Segment 1
Observe: it is written, “For seven days shall he consecrate you.” What is “seven days”? It has been taught: that supernal place, which is the sum of the other six, is called “seven days”, and it is called repentance. As we have learnt, whoever sits fasting on the Sabbath — they tear up for him a decree of judgement of seventy years; and the seventy years are the seven faces of the King, so that even if they had all agreed upon him for evil, that decree of judgement is torn up. What is the reason? Because on that day he cleaves to the sum of them all, which is called seven and is called repentance; therefore he cleaves to them all, and he returns in repentance, and the decree of judgement is torn up in all of them. And therefore assuredly there are seventy years in a dream.
Segment 2
After this pattern the priest is crowned with seven, which is called “seven days”. If he blemishes his head, that seven which is the sum of them all makes bald in him all that holiness of them all which rests upon him. Therefore they were warned that “they shall not make baldness upon their head”, so that they should not be found blemished in everything. And therefore the priest must be found in greater completeness than all, and all the more so he who is supernal above them all.
Segment 3
R. Abba said: here it is with the lower He, here with the upper He. The High Priest, who is supernal above them all, is with the upper He, as it is written, “upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated,” etc.; and “that is consecrated”, as it is written, “for seven days shall he consecrate you”. The other priest is with the lower He, as it is written, “they shall not make baldness upon their head”, and after it is written, “neither shall they profane the name of their God”; and this Name is known. And therefore it is written, “And the priest that is highest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments,” as we have said. And because he is holy after the pattern of what is above, it is written, “neither shall he go out of the sanctuary”.
