Section 29 of 51 in Emor — 3 segments

Segment 1

R. Judah asked R. Abba: ‘Seeing that the seven days of Passover are all days of joy, why do we not say the complete Hallel on all of them, as on Tabernacles?’

Segment 2

He replied: ‘Because at this point Israel were not yet linked with the supernal world to such an extent as they were to be later. Therefore on this night (the first night of Passover) when there is the divine wedlock and universal joy in which Israel participate, we say the whole Hallel as a sign of completeness. But afterwards we do not say the whole, because Israel were not yet linked with those four higher grades, since the holy sign was not yet displayed on their flesh, and they had not yet received the Torah; whereas on Tabernacles all had been completed and the joy was more complete.’

Segment 3

And therefore the joy of all, and the completeness of the Hallel, is on this night, because of that portion to which they were bound. What is the reason? Since on that night the union is found, all the binding of all is found on the side of the union, and not on the side of Israel; for when the union is found in her, those two grades that stand over her are found. And when these are found, the whole body is found in them, and then there is the completeness of all, and joy out of all, and the Hallel is complete, for then the moon is crowned in all. But not afterwards, for they are found on each and every day, and Israel had not yet merited them; therefore the Hallel is not complete, as it is at other seasons.
