Masters of the Academies, I adjure you: do not depart from me until I have set in order the offerings to the Holy One, blessed be He. For the Shekinah is an offering to the Lord in every limb and limb of the King, in perfect union, in male and female — in all the limbs, which are these: some of them in the head, eyes to eyes, ears towards ears, nose to nose, face to face, mouth to mouth, as in “and he put his mouth upon his mouth and his eyes upon his eyes” (II Kings 4, 34), and by this he revived the child. And so the hands of the King with the hands of the Matrona, body to body, in all His limbs: a perfect offering.
Segment 2
A man without a wife is half a body, and the Shekinah does not rest upon him. So too (another reading: when) the Holy One, blessed be He: when He is not in the offering together with the Shekinah in all Israel, who are men of attributes and who are her limbs, the Cause of causes does not rest there, and it is as though the Holy One, blessed be He, were not one, since He is not with His Shekinah. And outside the Land, where the Shekinah is far from her Husband, it is said: whoever dwells outside the Land is like one who has no God, because there are no offerings there, outside the Land. And at the time when the Holy One, blessed be He, draws near with His Shekinah, this verse is fulfilled in Him: “On that day the Lord shall be one and His name one” (Zech. 14, 9); and the Cause of causes rests upon them.
Segment 3
Although the patriarchs ordained the prayers in the place of the offerings, this is to bring near the nefashot, ruhot and neshamot (vital souls, spirits and souls), which are of the intellect, to the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shekinah, as limbs to the body. But from the side of the thrones and the angels, which are bodies and limbs outside the King and the Matrona, there is no offering there. And therefore it is said of the throne, “and he said: for the hand is upon the throne of Yah” (Ex. 17, 16) — (kes, wanting the aleph of kisse) (another reading: He-Vav, wanting from the Tetragrammaton) — “a throne of glory, on high from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary” (Jer. 17, 12). And the limbs are in separation from the body: He is within and they are without. This is as it is written, “Behold, their valiant ones cry outside” (Isa. 33, 7) — outside, assuredly.
