Section 15 of 27 in Beha'alotcha — 8 segments
Segment 1
And further, in the chapter Ha-ro’eh: one who sees date palms in a dream, his iniquities are ended. This is what is written, “Your iniquity is ended, O daughter of Zion” (Lam. 4, 22). For in temarim (date palms) there is tam — the grade of Jacob, of whom it is said, “and Jacob was a perfect man” (Gen. 25, 27) — and sins are marim (bitter); and therefore temarim: there is tam, and there is mar.
Segment 2
Here there is an allusion: “and the waters were made sweet.” This is what is written, “and the Lord showed him a tree, and the waters were made sweet” (Ex. 15, 25). From here: whoever labours in the Torah, which is a tree — his sins, of which it is said, “and they made their lives bitter with hard service” (Ex. 1, 14), the Holy One, blessed be He, pardons him, and they are turned back to sweetness.
Segment 3
For days will come in which there shall be fulfilled in them what was at the going out of Egypt, of which it is said, “And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation” (Ex. 1, 6). And in the last exile there is no death but poverty, for a poor man is accounted as dead — so that there should be fulfilled in them, “And I will leave in the midst of you a poor and lowly people, and they shall take refuge in the name of the Lord” (Zeph. 3, 12); so that there should be established in them, “And the poor people You save” (2 Sam. 22, 28). And as for these rich who shall remain among them, there shall be fulfilled in them, “You are idle, you are idle” (Ex. 5, 17). They are idle in the Torah; they are idle in doing kindness with the masters of the Torah, and with the men of valour who go round from city to city, and they show them no favour.
