Section 14 of 18 in Addenda, Volume III — 19 segments
Segment 1
After this he must read the section of Bereshit, up to “And there was evening and there was morning, one day,” which is the exaltation and the praise of all. Afterwards let him occupy himself with the section of the offerings, to make atonement for himself; and let him say “Command Aaron,” up to “shall be kept burning on it,” so that all the thoughts and reflections of the night may be atoned for. Afterwards let him praise the praise of David. And because of this a man enters into the gates in which all is, and by it the grades are set in order.
Segment 2
Once he reaches “Who forms light,” which is the beginning of the prayer said sitting, then all those grades open the gates; and then (S.S. 3, 6) “like pillars of smoke” is written. Just as the pillars of smoke of the incense ascend, and these grades are joined one to another, so here too it is the prayer, which is like pillars of smoke that are joined and bound one to another. For he binds them and says, “All of them beloved, all of them holy,” and so forth.
Segment 3
Afterwards “Great love,” to ascend and be bound in the right, and the unification of the Shema. A large Ayin, a large Daleth; and the sign is ed (witness). This is what is written, (I Sam. 12, 5) “The Lord is witness (ed) against you.” There remain the letters Shin-Mem, with an open Mem; for an open Mem is the lower king, and a closed Mem the upper king. There remain the letters Shin-Mem, Aleph-Chet: from this side Shin-Mem, and from that side Aleph-Chet.
