מִדְרָשׁ רוּת: הַצַּדִּיק אֲבַד כָּל זְמָן שֶׁלֹּא יָבֹא הַשֶׁפַע אֲבַד וְעָלָיו נֶאֱמַר (ישעיהו י״ט:ה׳) וְנָהָר יֶחרַב וְיָבֵשׁ וּבְעֵת הַבְּרָכָה נְאֶמָר (תהילים ה׳:י״ג) כִּי אַתָּה תְּבָרֵךְ צַדִּיק בְּרָכוֹת לְרֹאשׁ צַדִּיק:
Midrash Ruth: “The righteous perishes” — so long as the abundance does not come, he perishes; and of him it is said, “And the river shall be drained and dried up” (Isa. 19, 5). And at the time of blessing it is said, “For You bless the righteous” (Ps. 5, 13), “Blessings are upon the head of the righteous.”
