Segment 1א׳

אוֹסְרִי לַגֶּפֶן עִירֹ"ה וְלַשׂוֹרֵקָ"ה בְּנִי אֲתוֹנוֹ כִּבֵּס בָּיַיִן לְבוּשׁוּ וּבְדַם עֲנָבִים סוּתֹה. תְמַנְיָא דַרְגִּין כְּלִילָן בְּהָאי קְרָא. אַרְבַּע מִנְּהוֹן דַּמְיָין אַהֲדָדֵי, תְרֵין מִנְּהוֹן דַּמְיָין אַהֲדָדֵי, וּתְרֵין אָחֳרָנִין דַּמְיָין אַהֲדָדֵי. אַרְבַּע דְּדַמְיָין אַהֲדָדֵי אִינוּן גֶּפֶן שׂוֹרֵקָה, הַיְינוּ גֶּפֶן הַיְינוּ שׂוֹרֵקָה דְּמִנְהוֹן נָפְקִין עֲנָבִים וּמִנְהוֹן מִתְעֲבִיד חַמְרָא דְאִיקְרֵי יַּיִן וְכֻלְּהוּ רָזָא חֲדָא וּמִשָׁרְשָׁא חַד נָפְקִין וְנַגְדִּין. וּתְרֵין דְּדַמְיָין אַהֲדָדֵי עִירֹה אֲתוֹנוֹ, הַיְינוּ עִירֹה הַיְינוּ אֲתוֹנוֹ וְרָזָא חֲדָא נִינְהוּ וּבְדַרְגָּא חֲדָא כְּלִילָן וּמְרָזָא חֲדָא נַגְדִּין.

“Binding his foal to the vine, and his ass’s colt to the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his vesture in the blood of grapes.” Eight grades are comprised in this verse. Four of them resemble one another, two of them resemble one another, and two others resemble one another. The four that resemble one another are VINE, CHOICE VINE — for the vine is the choice vine — from which go out grapes, and from which is made the wine that is called YAYIN; and they are all one mystery, and from one root they go out and flow. And the two that resemble one another are HIS FOAL, HIS ASS — for his foal is his ass; and they are one mystery, and they are comprised in one grade, and from one mystery they flow.

Segment 2ב׳

לְבוּשׁ"וֹ סוּתֹ"ה הַיְינוּ מִלָּה חֲדָא וְרָזָא חַדָא (שמות כ"ג) כִּי הִיא כְּסוּתוֹ לְבַדָּהּ הִיא שִׂמְלָתוֹ לְעוֹרוֹ. זִמְנָא קַרְיֵיהּ כְּסוּת וְזִמְנָא אַחֲרָא קַרְיֵיהּ לְבוּשׁ וְזִמְנָא אַחֲרָא קַרְיֵיהּ שִׂמְלָה וְכֻלְּהוּ מִשָׁרְשָׁא חֲדָא נַגְדִּין וּמִלָּה חֲדָא עָבְדִין וְחִלוּפָא דִּשְׁמָהָן רָזִין עִלָּאִין כְּלִילָן בְּהוּ, וּמָאן דְדָיִיק טַעִים מִידִי. וּמָאן דְלָא דָיִיק, לָא טַעִים וְלָא מִידִי. וְהָנִי תְמַנְיָא דַרְגִּין רָזִין עִלָּאִין רְמִיזִין בְּהוּ, אֲבָל קְרָא בִּפְשָׁטֵיה קָאֵי.

HIS GARMENT, HIS VESTURE — this is one word and one mystery: (Ex. 23) “for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin.” One time Scripture calls it a covering, and another time it calls it a garment, and another time it calls it a robe; and they all flow from one root and do one work; and in the changing of the names supernal mysteries are comprised. And he who is exact tastes something; and he who is not exact tastes nothing at all. And in these eight grades supernal mysteries are hinted at; but the verse stands in its plain sense.

תָּא חֲזֵי, יַעֲקֹב שְׁלֵימָא דְאַבָּהָן הֲוָה, כְּמָא דְאַתְּ אָמֵר (בראשית כ״ה:כ״ז) וְיַעֲקֹב אִישׁ תָּם וְגוֹ' מַאי אִישׁ תָּם דְּאִשְׁתַּכְלַּל מֵחָכְמָתָא דִלְעֵילָא וּמְחָכְמָתָא דִלְתַתָּא וְהַיְינוּ דִכְתִיב יוֹשֵׁב אֹהָלִים, תְרֵין אֹהָלִים נִינְהוּ. אֹהֶל דְאִיקְרֵי לְפָנִים מִן הַפַּרְגּוֹד וְאֹהֶל דְאִיקְרֵי אֲחוֹרֵי הַפַּרְגּוֹד וְכַלִיל הֲוָה מִתְּרֵין סִטְרִין, מִבָּתֵּי גָּוָאי וּמִבָּתֵּי בָּרָאי

Observe: Jacob was the consummation of the patriarchs, as you say, (Gen. 25, 27) “and Jacob was a perfect man,” and so forth. What is “a perfect man”? That he was perfected from the wisdom that is above and from the wisdom that is below. And this is what is written, “dwelling in tents” — there are two tents: the tent that is called within the curtain, and the tent that is called behind the curtain; and he was comprised of both sides, of the inner chambers and of the outer chambers.
