Se’if 1א׳
A lung in which there is found (even) any amount at all that is black as ink, or that resembles the appearance of flesh, or that is green (amrilo in the vernacular, and in the language of Ashkenaz they call it gel) — whether it is like the appearance of the yolk of an egg, or like the appearance of saffron, or like the appearance of hops — it is a tereifah (an animal with a fatal defect). And likewise, if it is like the appearance of a split log, which is white as a split log, it is forbidden; and there is one who says that this means that it is like dried palm branches. Hagah [Rema]: And there are those who say that even if it is like the white of an egg it is a tereifah (Maharyu) (Arukh, entry "kachal", and Rokeach and other authorities), and such is the practice.
Se’if 2ב׳
None of these appearances render it unfit until they inflate it and he stirs it with his hand: if it changed to a permitted appearance, it is permitted; and if it stood as it was, it is forbidden (All the authorities, to the exclusion of Rabbeinu Yitzchak in Tosafot).
Se’if 3ג׳
There is one who says that these appearances do not render it unfit save where the change in the skin is on its own account, and not on account of pus that is within it. Hagah [Rema]: And likewise, if the change of appearance came from the force of black hair or of clotted blood lying in the lung, it is fit (Matza Katuv in the name of Rabbi Yaakov Molin).
