Se’if 1א׳
There is no obligation of challah (the portion of dough given to a priest) except in bread. Therefore sponge-cakes — that is, soft cakes made like a sponge — and honey-cakes and iskritin, which are fried in honey, are exempt from challah.
Se’if 2ב׳
Dough whose batter is loose, and he baked it in an oven or in a pan — whether he heated the pan and afterwards stuck the dough on, or stuck it on and afterwards heated it — is liable to challah, provided that it is not by means of a liquid.
Se’if 3ג׳
Dough whose batter is thick, and he rolled it with the intention of cooking it, or frying it, or making it into sponge-cakes, or drying it in the sun, and he did so — it is exempt. If he rolled it to make bread of it, and changed his mind to cook it, or fry it, or make it into sponge-cakes, or dry it in the sun — it is liable, for it already became liable from the time of rolling. If he rolled it with the intention of sponge-cakes and the like, and changed his mind to make it bread — it is liable.
