The Firstborn of a Kosher Animal· siman 307
Se’if 1א׳
One may not flay a firstborn from the feet — that is, to strip off its hide whole by way of its feet.
Se’if 2ב׳
If he slaughtered it and it was found to be a tereifah (an animal with a fatal defect), its hide together with its flesh is forbidden in benefit and requires burial. And therefore it is good to sell it to an idolater before the slaughter (Hagahot Mordechai, chapter "The woman", and so wrote the Beit Yosef in the name of an Ashkenazi responsum, and it is in the responsa of Maharil).
Se’if 3ג׳
The priest must keep it and rear it indefinitely, until a blemish falls in it. And he may sell it even to an Israelite, even though it is unblemished, and the buyer shall treat it with the sanctity of a firstborn. When is this said? Where the buyer acquires it for his own need. But it is forbidden to trade in it, that is, to buy it in order to make a profit. And if he bought it for his need and did not come to need it, he may go back and sell it.
