Se’if 1א׳
The essence of the vow referred to in the Torah is to attach it to another consecrated item. For example, one says: "This bread is to me like a sacrifice" or "This bread is to me a prohibition". So too if one prohibits one loaf of bread by attaching it to a consecrated item, and then says of another loaf: "That too!" - it is now forbidden. This can apply even to a hundred loaves. If one vows to fast on a certain day, or not to eat meat, and says of another day: "Like that one!" - it is forbidden [to eat]. RAMA: There are varying terminologies for vows, and the Rabbi did not mention them all.
Se’if 2ב׳
It is not specifically one who attaches it to a sacrifice; rather the same law applies to every thing that is consecrated by a consecration of the mouth — such as where he says: this loaf is like the lamb, like the pens, like the altar, like the Sanctuary, like Jerusalem, or like one of all the things that serve the altar — this is a vow. Hagah [Rema]: If he vowed by the table that is in the Temple, it is a vow; but if he said: like a table, without more, and did not say: like the holy table, it is nothing. And in any case, in the case of an am ha-aretz (one unlearned in the Torah) there is ground to release him, so that he shall not be unrestrained in vows (Hagahot Mordechai on Shevuot in the name of the Maharam, brought by the Beit Yosef in siman 237).
Se’if 3ג׳
His fellow heard and said: and I am like you — within the space of an utterance — this one is forbidden in that in which his fellow was forbidden. The third heard this one who said: and I, and said: and I — even if they were a hundred, and each one says: and I, within the space of his fellow's utterance — they are all forbidden.
