Se’if 1א׳
Several specific laws regarding the laws of Yom Tov, containing seven sections: A skewer that has been flattened, even though one could straighten it by hand, one may not fix it. Rema: This is specifically when one can roast with it without fixing it. But if one cannot roast with it as is, and it broke on Yom Tov itself, it is permitted to fix it (Tur). However, we do not instruct this to the public (Rabbi Yerucham, vol. 3), lest they come to fix it even when it broke before Yom Tov. And the same law applies to all utensils that are impossible to prepare before Yom Tov.
Se’if 2ב׳
A skewer that one wishes to roast with, if it was longer than necessary—it is forbidden to cut it or to burn it. One may not sharpen a knife with its whetstone, but one may sharpen it upon wood, earthenware, or stone. This ruling is not taught to the public, lest they come to sharpen with a whetstone. When does this apply? When the knife can cut with difficulty or has become nicked. But if it cannot cut at all, one may not sharpen it even upon wood, lest one come to sharpen it with a whetstone.
Se’if 3ג׳
Poultry that one fills with meat and eggs—it is permitted to sew them on Yom Tov, provided that he prepares the thread before Yom Tov and places it in the needle, and he should be careful not to cut the thread on Yom Tov. Rema: And so they customarily burn the thread that remains in the bird after they sewed with it.
