Se’if 1א׳

הַחוֹשֵׁשׁ בְּמָתְנָיו, לֹא יָסוּךְ שֶׁמֶן וְחֹמֶץ; אֲבָל סָךְ הוּא שֶׁמֶן לְבַדּוֹ, אֲבָל לֹא בְּשֶׁמֶן וֶרֶד, מִשּׁוּם דְּמוּכָחָא מִלְּתָא דְּלִרְפוּאָה קָא עָבִיד; וְאִם הוּא מָקוֹם שֶׁמָּצוּי בּוֹ שֶׁמֶן וֶרֶד וְדֶרֶךְ בְּנֵי אָדָם לְסוּכוֹ אֲפִלּוּ בְּלֹא רְפוּאָה, מֻתָּר. הַגָּה: וּבְמָקוֹם שֶׁאֵין נוֹהֲגִין לָסוּךְ בְּשֶׁמֶן כִּי אִם לִרְפוּאָה, בְּכָל שֶׁמֶן אָסוּר (בֵּית יוֹסֵף).

The Laws Governing Anointing Oneself on Shabbos, having 4 Seifim: A person who feels discomfort in his loins may not apply (a mixture of) oil and vinegar. One may, however, anoint oneself with oil (alone), but not with rose oil because it is very expensive and rare, and it is unusual to apply it other than for therapeutic purposes. In a place where rose oil is [easily] available and people commonly apply it even for purposes that are not curative, it is permitted to anoint oneself with it even for therapeutic purposes. Rema: In a place where it is not customary to anoint with oil except for therapeutic purposes, it is forbidden to anoint oneself with any oil (Beis Yosef).

Se’if 2ב׳

סָכִין וּמְמַשְׁמְשִׁין לַהֲנָאָתוֹ עַל יְדֵי שִׁנּוּי, שֶׁסָךְ וּמְמַשְׁמֵשׁ בְּיַחַד, וְלֹא יְמַשְׁמֵשׁ בְּכֹחַ אֶלָּא בְּרִפְיוֹן יָדַיִם.

It is permitted to anoint oneself and have one’s entire body massaged by hand for pleasure. And one should not massage vigorously, but [rather, he should massage] gently.

Se’if 3ג׳

אֵין מְגָרְדִין בִּכְלִי הֶעָשׂוּי לְכָךְ, אֶלָּא אִם כֵּן הָיוּ יָדָיו אוֹ רַגְלָיו מְטֻנָּפוֹת בְּטִיט וְצוֹאָה.

One may not scrape his body with an implement that is designated for that purpose unless his hands or his feet are soiled with mud or filth.
