Where the ways of peace are at stake, or with a violent gentile, it is permitted to give to him or to send to him through a gentile. And the same law applies for the need of a mitzvah, such as to get leaven out of one's house on Passover (Mordechai).

It is permitted to exchange a pledge on the Sabbath if it is a garment, and he takes it out by way of wearing it, for this is not trading; and with an Israelite too it is permitted in this manner, if the Israelite needs to wear it. Hagah [Rema]: And it is good that the gentile himself take the pledge and leave another in its place, and that the Israelite not touch it, so that he does not appear as one who trades (Agudah). And see above, siman 307, at its end, on the law of a gentile who brings some item on the Sabbath, whether it is permitted to accept it.
