Substitution 4
Chapter 4 of 4 in Substitution — 13 halachot
Halacha 1
How is the law of the offspring of consecrated animals? The offspring of a peace-offering and the offspring of a substitute for a peace-offering are as peace-offerings, and they themselves are as peace-offerings in every respect. And so too the offspring of a thanksgiving-offering and the offspring of its substitute are offered as a thanksgiving-offering, save that they do not require bread, since one brings bread only with the thanksgiving-offering itself, as it is said (Leviticus 7:12), "upon the sacrifice of the thanksgiving" — upon it, and not upon its offspring and not upon its substitute, as we have explained. When do these words apply? To the offspring themselves; but the offspring of offspring are not offered, since from his acts it is evident that he is keeping them back in order to raise flocks upon flocks from them, and therefore they penalise him and he shall not offer them.
Halacha 2
The offspring of a sin-offering is killed [without being sacrificed] and it goes without saying [that the same is true for] the offspring of its replacement as well.
Halacha 3
If one who slaughters a sin-offering finds inside it a live four-month old fetus, it may be eaten like the meat of the offering itself since fetal sacrificial animals are holy.
