Eruvin 8
Chapter 8 of 8 in Eruvin — 15 halachot
Halacha 1
One may not set down two eruvin, one to the east and one to the west, so as to walk for part of the day by one of the two eruvin and for the rest of the day by the second eruv, for one does not make two eruvin for a single day. If he erred and made an eruv in two directions, supposing that one may make an eruv in two directions; or if he said to two men, "Go out and make an eruv for me," and one made an eruv for him to the north and one made an eruv for him to the south — he walks according to the feet of both of them.
Halacha 2
How does he walk according to the feet of both of them? That he may walk only in a place where both of them may walk. If one of them set down the eruv at a distance of a thousand cubits to the east, and the second set down his eruv at a distance of five hundred cubits to the west — the one for whom they made the eruv may walk to the west only a thousand cubits, according to the feet of the one who made the eruv for him to the east; and he may walk to the east only a thousand five hundred cubits, according to the feet of the one who made the eruv for him to the west. Therefore, if he made these two eruvin, or they were made for him, one at a distance of two thousand cubits to the east and one at a distance of two thousand cubits to the west — he may not stir from his place.
Halacha 3
A man may make two eruvin in two directions and lay down a condition, saying: "If some matter of a commandment should befall me, or I should be pressed tomorrow and need this direction, this is the eruv upon which I rely, and the eruv in the second direction is nothing. And if I need this second direction, this is the eruv upon which I rely, and the one in the first direction is nothing. And if I need both directions, I may rely upon whichever eruv I wish, and to whichever I wish I shall go. And if nothing befalls me and I need neither of the directions, these two eruvin are no eruv, and I rely upon neither of them; rather I am as the people of my city, who have two thousand cubits in every direction outside the wall."
