רבי ישמעאל ברבי יוסי Rabbi Yishmael berabbi Yose
Tanna · 4th generation (c. 135–170 CE) — named 74 times across 22 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Yishmael berabbi Yose, of the fourth tannaitic generation, was the son of Rabbi Yose ben Chalafta and the bearer of his father's traditions — a great part of what the Talmud knows of Rabbi Yose it knows because his son reported it. Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi counted him among his teachers.
He was a man of great physical size, and the Talmud records that fact along with the office he held under the Roman authorities. He is named some seventy-five times across twenty-two tractates, spread thinly, and appears most often in the company of Rebbi and of his father's rulings.
Son of Rabbi Yose ben Chalafta; a bearer of his father's traditions.
