Tanna · 2nd generation×7 named in the Bavli5 tractates

Rabbi Chalafta of Tzippori, of the second tannaitic generation, is best known as the father of Rabbi Yose ben Chalafta, one of the great tannaim of the generation that followed. His own teaching survives in a small number of places.

Three of his seven mentions are in Taanit, where he is reported together with Rabbi Chanina ben Teradyon on the practice of the elders when the blessings of a public fast were recited. The remainder are single citations in Berachot, Gittin, Rosh Hashana and Zevachim.
