זוהר, ויקרא י״גZohar, Vayikra 13

Segment 1א׳

פָּתַח רִבִּי אַבָּא וְאָמַר, כְּתִיב (ויקרא כ״ב:י״ג) וּבַת כֹּהֵן כִּי תִהְיֶה אַלְמָנָה וּגְרוּשָׁה וְזֶרַע אֵין לָהּ וְגוֹ', זַכָּאָה חוּלָקֵיהוֹן דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל מִכָּל עַמִּין עוֹבְדֵי עֲבוֹדָה זָרָה, דְּהָא קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא כַּד בָּרָא עָלְמָא, לָא בָּרָא לֵיהּ אֶלָּא בְּגִינֵיהוֹן דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, בְּגִין דִּיְקַבְּלוּן אוֹרַיְיתָא בְּטוּרָא דְּסִינַי, וְיִתְדָּכוּן בְּכֹלָּא, ויִשְׁתַּכְּחוּן זַכָּאִין קָמֵיהּ.

“But if a priest’s daughter be a widow or divorced and have no child”, etc. (Lev. 22, 13). ‘Blessed’, he said, ‘is the portion of Israel above that of all other nations, because God created the world only for their sake, that they might receive the Law on Mount Sinai and become pure and righteous in His sight.

Segment 2ב׳

תָּא חֲזִי, כַּד אִשְׁתְּלִים הַאי עָלְמָא בְּהוּ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, כְּגַוְונָא דִּלְעֵילָּא, וְהַהוּא אָדָם אִתְנְעִיץ בְּאַרְעָא, וְרוּמֵיהּ מָטֵי עַד צֵית שְׁמַיָא, בָּעָא קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לְאַשְׁלְמָא (ס"א לאשלפא) נִשְׁמְתָא קַדִּישָׁא מֵעֵילָּא לְתַתָּא, בְּגִין דְּיִתְאֲחִיד ויִתְקְשָׁר דָּא בְּדָא, הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (בראשית ב׳:ז׳) וַיִּיצֶר יְיָ' אֱלהִים אֶת הָאָדָם עָפָר מִן הָאֲדָמָה וְגוֹ'. לְמֶהֱוֵי קָשִׁיר דָּא בְּדָא, וְיִשְׁתְּכַּח שְׁלִים כְּגַוְונָא דִּלְעֵילָּא, וְיַשְׁלִים וִיתַקֵּן גַּרְמֵיהּ הָכֵי.

Now, when this world was made after the supernal pattern and that first man was planted in the earth whose stature reached to the heaven, God desired to draw down a holy soul from heaven to earth in order that they might be joined and linked together. And therefore “God formed man dust from the ground”, etc. (Gen. 2, 7), that he might join one with the other and himself be perfect.

Segment 3ג׳

וּבְגִין כָּךְ בָּרָא לֵיהּ דְּכַר וְנוּקְבָּא, לְמֶהֱוֵי שְׁלִים. וְאֵימָתַי אִקְרֵי בַּר נָשׁ שְׁלִים כְּגַוונָא דִּלְעֵילָּא בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּאִזְדַּוִּוג בְּבַת זוּגֵיהּ בְּאַחֲדוּתָא בְּחֶדְוָותָא בִּרְעוּתָא, וְיַפִּיק מִנֵּיהּ וּמִנוּקְבֵיהּ בֵּן (ר"ס) וּבַת. וּכְדֵין הוּא בַּר נָשׁ שְׁלִים כְּגַוְונָא דִּלְעֵילָּא, וְאַשְׁלִים הוּא לְתַתָּא, כְּגַוונָא דִּשְׁמָא קַדִּישָׁא עִלָּאָה, וּכְדֵין אִתְקְרֵי (ס"א אתקיים) שְׁמָא קַדִּישָׁא עִלָּאָה עָלֵיהּ.

And therefore God created man male and female that he might be perfect. For when is man called complete after the supernal pattern? When he is joined with his mate in unity, in joy, and in affection, and there issue from their union a son and a daughter. Then is man complete below like the Holy Name above, and the Holy Name is attached to him.
