Segment 1א׳
תַּנְיָא. וַיִּקְרְבוּ יְמֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לָמוּת. אָמַר רִבִּי יְהוּדָה, וַוי לְעַלְמָא, דְּהָא בְּנֵי נָשָׁא לָא חָמָאן וְלָא שְׁמָעָן, וְלָא יָדְעִין דְּהָא כָּל יוֹמָא וְיוֹמָא, קָלָא דְּכָרוֹזָא אִשְׁתְּמַע, בְּמָאתָן וְחַמְשִׁין עָלְמִין.
AND THE TIME DREW NEAR THAT ISRAEL MUST DIE. R. Judah said: ‘Alas, for the ignorance of mankind! They see not, neither do they hear, nor know that every day the voice of a herald goes forth and resounds through two hundred and fifty worlds.
Segment 2ב׳
תָּנָא עַלְמָא חָדָא, אִשְׁתְּמוֹדַע לְעֵילָא. וְכַד כָּרוֹזָא נָפִיק, הַהוּא עַלְמָא מִזְדַּעְזְעָא וּמִתְחַלְחְלָא. נָפְקֵי (קסב ע"ב) תְּרֵין צִפֳּרִין, דְּאִסְתַּלָּקוּ מֵהַהוּא עַלְמָא, דִּמְדוֹרֵיהוֹן תְּחוֹת אִילָנָא דְּחֵיזוּ דְחַיֵּי וּמוֹתָא בֵּיהּ.
We have learnt that when the herald goes forth one of these worlds shakes and trembles, and there issue from it two birds whose abode is beneath the tree wherein is the appearance of life and death,
Segment 3ג׳
נָפְקָא חַד צִפּוֹרָא לִסְטַר דָּרוֹמָא וְחַד צִפּוֹרָא לִסְטַר צָפוֹנָא, וְחַד צִפּוֹרָא כַּד נָהִיר יְמָמָא, וְחַד כַּד אִתְחֲשַׁךְ יְמָמָא. כָּל חַד וְחַד קָרֵי וּמַכְרְזָא, מַה דְּשָׁמְעִין מֵהַהוּא כָּרוֹזָא.
one towards the South and the other towards the North, one when the day dawns and one when it departs. Both proclaim what they hear from the herald.
