Segment 1א׳

תָּא חֲזֵי, דֶּבֶר אַתְוָון דַּהֲווֹ בְּנִיחוּתָא, מוֹתָנָא בְּנַיְיחָא, דַּהֲווֹ מֵתִין מִגַּרְמַיְיהוּ. בָּרָד, דְּאִתְהַדָּרוּ אַתְוָון בִּתְקוֹף רוּגְזָא, וְקָטַל כֹּלָּא. יָתְבוּ בְּהַהוּא חֲקָל, חָמוּ עָאנֵי דְּאַתְיָין לַאֲתָר חַד, וּמֵתִין תַּמָּן, קָם הַהוּא יוּדָאִי לְגַבֵּי הַהוּא אֲתָר, וְחָמָא תְּרֵין קַטְפִירֵי, דְּמַלְיָין אַקוּסְטְרָא.

Observe: DeBeR (murrain) — letters that were in gentleness, a death in quietness, for they died of themselves. BaRaD (hail) — the letters were turned about in the force of wrath, and it killed all. They sat in that field; they saw sheep coming to one place and dying there. That Jew rose and went up to that place, and saw two packs full of akustra.

Segment 2ב׳

פָּתַח וְאָמַר, כְּתִיב (בראשית י״ב:ב׳) וְאֶעֶשְׂךָ לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל וַאֲבָרֶכְךָ וַאֲגַדְּלָה שְׁמֶךָ וְהְיֵה בְּרָכָה, הַאי מִלָּה דְּרִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, דְּאָמַר, וְאֶעֶשְׂךָ לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל, לָקֳבֵל לֶךְ לְךָ. וַאֲבָרֶכְךָ, לָקֳבֵל מֵאַרְצְךָ. וַאֲגַדְּלָה שְׁמֶךָ, לָקֳבֵל וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ. וֶהְיֵה בְּרָכָה, לָקֳבֵל וּמִבֵּית אָבִיךָ. וְדָא לָקֳבֵל דָּא.

He discoursed on the verse: It is written, “And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and be a blessing” (Gen. 12, 2). This is the saying of R. Eleazar, who said: “And I will make of you a great nation” corresponds to “Get yourself out”; “and I will bless you” corresponds to “from your land”; “and make your name great” corresponds to “and from your birthplace”; “and be a blessing” corresponds to “and from your father’s house.” And this corresponds to that.

Segment 3ג׳

ר' שִׁמְעוֹן אָמַר, רָזָא דְּחָכְמְתָא הָכָא. וְאֶעֶשְׂךָ לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל, לָקֳבֵל סְטָר יְמִינָא. וַאֲבָרֶכְךָ, לָקֳבֵל סְטָר שְׂמָאלָא. וַאֲגַדְּלָה שְׁמֶךָ, לָקֳבֵל סְטָר אֶמְצָעִיתָא. וֶהְיֵה בְּרָכָה, לָקֳבֵל סְטָר אַרְעָא דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. וְכֹלָּא רָזָא דִּרְתִּיכָא קַדִּישָׁא.

R. Simeon said: There is a mystery of wisdom here. “And I will make of you a great nation” corresponds to the right side; “and I will bless you” corresponds to the left side; “and make your name great” corresponds to the middle side; “and be a blessing” corresponds to the side of the land of Israel. And all is the mystery of the holy Chariot.

Segment 4ד׳

תָּא חֲזֵי, בְּאִתְעָרוּתָא דִּלְתַתָּא, אִתְּעַר לְעֵילָּא. וְעַד לָא יִתְּעַר לְתַתָּא, לָא יִתְּעַר לְעֵילָּא, לְאַשְׁרָאָה עָלֵיהּ. מַה כְּתִיב בְּאַבְרָהָם, (בראשית י״א:ל״א) וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם מֵאוּר כַּשְׂדִּים. וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם, וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתּוֹ מִבָּעֵי לֵיהּ. דְּהָא כְּתִיב וַיִּקַּח תֶּרַח אֶת אַבְרָם בְּנוֹ (ואת לוט בן הרן) וְגוֹ'. מַהוּ וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם. אֶלָּא, תֶּרַח וְלוֹט נָפְקוּ עִם אַבְרָהָם וְשָׂרָה, דְּכֵיוָן דְּאִשְׁתְּזִיב אַבְרָהָם מִן נוּרָא, אִתְהַדַּר תֶּרַח לְמֶעְבַּד רְעוּתֵיהּ. וּבְגִין כַּךְ, וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם. כֵּיוָן דְּאִינּוּן אִתְעֲרוּ בְּקַדְמִיתָא, אֲמַר לֵיהּ קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לֶךְ לְךָ.

Observe: by a rousing below, there is a rousing above; and until there is a rousing below, there is no rousing above to rest upon it. What is written of Abraham? “And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees” (Gen. 11, 31). “And they went forth with them” — it should have said “and they went forth with him”! For it is written, “And Terah took Abram his son,” and so forth. What is “and they went forth with them”? Rather: Terah and Lot went out with Abraham and Sarah; for once Abraham was delivered from the fire, Terah turned to do his will. And therefore, “and they went forth with them.” Once they had roused themselves first, the Holy One, blessed be He, said to him, “Get yourself out.”

Segment 5ה׳

רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אָמַר, לֶךְ לְךָ. לְתִקּוּנָךָ לְגַרְמָךְ. מֵאַרְצְךָ, מֵהַהוּא סִטְרָא דְּיִשּׁוּבָא דְּאַתְּ תָּקִיל, דְּאִתְיְלִידַת בֵּיהּ. וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ, מֵהַהוּא תּוֹלְדָה דִּילָךְ. וּמִבֵּית אָבִיךָ, דְּאַתְּ אַשְׁגַּח בְּשָׁרָשָׁא דִּלְהוֹן. אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַרְאֶךָּ, תַּמָן אִתְגְּלֵי לָךְ, מַה דְּאַתְּ בָּעֵי, הַהוּא חֵילָא דִּמְמָנָא עָלָּה, דְּאִיהוּ עָמִיק וְסָתִים. מִיָּד, וַיֵּלֶךְ אַבְרָם כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֵלָיו יְיָ'. וַאֲנָן קָא בָּעֵינָן לְמֵהַךְ מֵהָכָא לְמִנְדַּע רָזָא דְּחָכְמְתָא (חסר).

R. Simeon said: “Get yourself out” — for your own perfecting, for your own sake. “From your land” — from that side of the settled world in which you are weighed, in which you were born. “And from your birthplace” — from that generation of yours. “And from your father’s house” — for you look into their root. “To the land that I will show you” — there shall be revealed to you what you seek: that power which is set over her, which is deep and hidden. Immediately, “And Abram went, as the Lord had spoken to him.” And we, we must go from here to learn the mystery of wisdom. (Wanting.)
