Segment 1א׳
פָּתַח רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וְאָמַר, (איוב ל״ה:י׳) וְלא אָמַר אַיֵּה אֱלוֹהַּ עֹשָׂי נוֹתֵן זְמִירוֹת בַּלַּיְלָה. הַאי קְרָא אוּקְמוּהָ וְאִתְּמַר, אֲבָל עוֹשָׂי, עוֹשִׂי מִבָּעֵי לֵיהּ, מַאן עוֹשָׂי. אֶלָּא שְׁמָא דְּאֱלוֹהַּ שְׁמָא כָּלִיל אִיהוּ דְּאִתְחָזֵי הוּא וּבֵי דִּינֵיהּ. דָּא שְׁמָא שְׁלִים אִיהוּ, דְּכָלִיל דְּכַר וְנוּקְבָּא: א"ל ו"ה וּבְגִינִי כַּךְ עוֹשָׂי.
R. Simeon quoted here the verse: “But none saith, Where is God (Eloha) my maker who giveth songs in the night?” (Job 35, 10).
Segment 2ב׳
נוֹתֵן זְמִירוֹת בַּלַּיְלָה, בְּגִין דְּדָא אִיהוּ דְּקָא (ק"ע ע"א) מְשָׁבַּחַת תָּדִיר לְגַבֵּי מַלְכָּא דִּשְׁלָמָא דִּילֵיהּ, כְּגַוְונָא דְּבוּצִינָא דְּלָא שָׁכִיךְ תָּדִיר, בְּגִין לְקַבְּלָא נְהוֹרָא חֶדְוָה עִלָּאָה, מִסְּגִיאוּת חֶדְוָה דִּילֵיהּ. וְעַל דָּא נוֹתֵן זְמִירוֹת בַּלַּיְלָה.
Said he: ‘The name “Eloha” here refers to Her who sings perpetual hymns of praise to the “King whose is the peace”, who is like a lamp that never ceases to receive the light of supreme joy from the fulness of His joy. Hence, “Who giveth songs in the night.”
Segment 3ג׳
כָּל אִינּוּן כֹּכָבַיָא דְּקָא מְנָהֲרָן בִּרְקִיעָא, כֻּלְּהוּ אוֹדָאן וּמְשַׁבְּחָן לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, בְּכָל הַהוּא זִמְנָא דְּאִתְחָזוּן בִּרְקִיעָא, בְּגִין דְּמַלְאֲכֵי עִלָּאֵי, כֻּלְּהוּ אוֹדָאן וּמְשַׁבְּחָן אַשְׁמוּרוֹת אַשְׁמוּרוֹת, בִּתְלַת פַּלְגֵּי דְּהַוְי לֵילְיָא.
All those stars which shine in heaven do sing and praise the Holy One, blessed be He, all the time that they are visible in the sky. And the angels above sing the praises of their Lord in successive watches of the night.
