Section 55 of 98 in Terumah — 2 segments
Segment 1
He discoursed on the verse: “And they shall make an ark of acacia wood” (Ex. 25, 10). The Scroll of the Law is the Central Column; his ark is the Shekinah. “Within and without shall you overlay it” — the Holy One, blessed be He, with His Shekinah, without and within, and all is one. Which is not so with the ark of this world, where the Torah within is of one kind and the ark of another kind: the one is written in ink, the other is wood overlaid with gold. For assuredly the Torah is the most precious of all, as it is written, “Gold and glass cannot equal it” (Job 28, 17).
Segment 2
And from another side, even in this world, he shows that all is one — ink and wood; for the ink is from apples, and these are produced upon a tree (and all the ingredients of ink are wood). And further: ink is black without and white within. So too are the students of the Torah and the sages: black in this world, which is without; beautiful in that world to come, which is within. And therefore ink, deyo, is the same word as dayo: “It is enough for the servant that he be like his master.” Deyo: Yod-Vau-Daleth is yado, his hand — wisdom and understanding and knowledge, which a man writes with his hand in ink. (End of Ra'aya Meheimna)
