Section 35 of 98 in Terumah — 4 segments

Segment 1

It was but for the hour, as it is written: “And the spirit of God clothed Zechariah” (2 Chron. 24, 20). And should you say, but there is Jeremiah, of whom it is written: “Before I formed you in the belly I knew you” (Jer. 1, 5) — and there are others. But none of them attained to prophecy and to the supernal priesthood as Aaron did; for Aaron attained supernal prophecy above all other priests, and attained priesthood above them all.

Segment 2

Moses attained prophecy and served in the supernal priesthood. Samuel attained both. As Moses would call and the Holy One, blessed be He, would answer him at once, so too of Samuel it is written: “Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to the Lord, and He will send thunder”, etc. (I Sam. 12, 17). But he did not rise to the supernal grade as Moses did. As Aaron served in the priesthood before the Holy One, blessed be He, so too Samuel served before the Holy One, blessed be He; but he did not rise to the supernal service as Aaron did.

Segment 3

And the matter is thus. Three there were who were faithful prophets and served in the priesthood: one, Moses; one, Aaron; and one, Samuel. And should you say that Samuel did not continue in the priesthood, but that it was another who served in the priesthood — and who was that? Jeremiah — it is not so, for it is written: “of the priests that were in Anathoth” (Jer. 1, 1). He was of the priests, but he did not serve. And Samuel served in the days of Eli. And Moses one time, all those seven days of consecration.
