Segment 1
If they depart from God, where is their holiness, seeing that their thoughts are turned from Him? And Scripture cries to them saying: “Be not as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding” (Ps. 32, 9). In what are human beings distinguished from the horse and the mule? By sanctification and self-perfection.
Segment 2
Hence the marital intercourse of human beings should be at fixed times, that they may concentrate their thoughts on cleaving to the Holy One, blessed be He. As has been pointed out, at midnight God enters the Garden of Eden to have communion with the righteous, and the Community of Israel praises the Holy One, blessed be He, and that is a propitious time to cleave to Him.
Segment 3
But as for the Companions who study the Torah, the time of their intercourse is at the time of another intercourse, from Sabbath to Sabbath, for that is the time when all above and below are blessed.
