Segment 1א׳
אָמַר רִבִּי יִצְחָק מַהוּ נֶגַע לָבָן אֲדַמְדָּם. נֶגַע מַמָּשׁ הוּא, אִי חִוָּורָא אִתְחֲזֵי, וְסוּמָקָא לָא אִתְעַבָּר. מַשְׁמַע דִּכְתִּיב לָבָן אֲדַמְדָּם. אָמַר רִבִּי יוֹסֵי, דְּחִוָּורָא לָא אִתְחֲזֵי אֶלָּא בְּסוּמָקָא, כְּגַוְונָא חִוָּורָא וְסוּמָקָא. רִבִּי יִצְחָק אָמַר, אַף עַל גַּב דְּחִוָּורָא אִתְחֲזֵי, אִי סוּמָקָא לָא אָזִיל, נֶגַע הוּא. דִּכְתִּיב, (ישעיהו א׳:י״ח) אִם יִהְיוּ חֲטָאֵיכֶם כַּשָּׁנִים כַּשֶּׁלֶג יַלְבִּינוּ. וְכַד אִתְחֲוָּור, כֹּלָּא רַחֲמֵי אִשְׁתְּכָחוּ, וְדִינִין לָא אִשְׁתְּכָחוּ. (ס"א דהא אתעקרו)
Rabbi Isaac said: ‘This plague is called “reddish-white” (Lev. 13, 42); it is still a plague if the white is visible and the red has not disappeared. When, however, the whole has become white, mercy is present and judgement departs.’
Segment 2ב׳
תָּאנֵי רִבִּי אַבָּא, כְּתִיב נֶגַע הוּא, וּכְתִיב נֶגַע הִיא. חַד דְּכַר וְחַד נוּקְבָּא. אֶלָּא כַּד נוּקְבָּא, אִסְתְּאָבַת בְּגִין חוֹבֵי תַּתָּאֵי, כְּתִיב נֶגַע הִיא. וְכַד דְּכַר לָא אִתְדָּכֵי בְּגִין חוֹבֵי תַּתָּאֵי, כְּתִיב נֶגַע הוּא.
Rabbi Abba said: ‘Sometimes the Female is sullied by the sins of men and sometimes the Male, and the priest knew from which side the punishment came,
Segment 3ג׳
וְאִשְׁתְּמוֹדְעָן מִלִּין אִלֵּין לְגַבֵּי כַּהֲנָא, דִּינִין דְּאָתוּ מֵהַאי, וְדִינִין דְּאָתוּ מֵהַאי. וְאִשְׁתְּמוֹדְעָן קָרְבָּנֵי דְּבַעְיָין לְקָרְבָא, דִּכְתִּיב זָכָר תָּמִים. וּכְתִיב נְקֵבָה תְּמִימָה יְבִיאֶנָּה, דְּהָא אִשְׁתְּמוֹדְעָן מִלֵי, מֵאָן אָתוּ דִּינִין, וּמֵאָן אִינּוּן חוֹבֵי. דְּאִתְאַחֲדָן בְּהַאי אוֹ בְּהַאי. וְעַל דָּא כְּתִיב, (תהילים נ״א:י״ט) זִבְחֵי אֱלֹהִים רוּחַ נִשְׁבָּרָה. לְאַפָּקָא שְׁאָר קָרְבְּנִין דְּלָא כְּתִיב רוּחַ נִשְׁבָּרָה, דְּאִינּוּן שְׁלָמָא לְעָלְמָא, וְחֶדְוָה דְּעִלָּאִין וְתַתָּאִין.
and he also knew the sacrifices which ought to be brought, as it is written: “The sacrifices of Elohim (i.e. sacrifices to avert punishment) are a contrite spirit” (Ps. 51, 18).’
