Segment 1
From below, within the lees of the wine, the evil dregs, there goes out one challenger, an accuser, the first destroyer; and he is in the spirit of the likeness of a man, Mem, when he draws near within the holiness. As soon as he passes from there, and seeks to go down below, to be clothed in a garment to harm the world, he goes down, he and his chariots. And the first garment that he takes is the figure of an ox, the likeness of an ox. And the first of the causes of damage among those four is the ox. And those four are principal causes of damage to the world. And all the three principal causes of damage, apart from the ox, are all of them his.
Segment 2
And therefore it is written, “Thus they exchanged their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass” (Ps. 106, 20). What is “that eats grass”? We have expounded it. But the root of the matter is: from the residue of the bread, and not the seven kinds of grain — he has no portion in them, and it is not fitting for him to be there.
Segment 3
From their places; and these sit in their places. Before these go out, these are made ready. Their shining and their sparkling — the eyes cannot bear it. They go round about; they have no stillness for ever.
