This is the offering, every day and at every season, to the Holy One, blessed be He: that the Community of Israel is comprised in Him, among all the other hosts; and all these services have brought her out from among the thorns, and from among the other nations. So Israel: as long as they are closed of heart and do not open in repentance, they send up no scent, and He does not bring them out from among the thorns. But when they open in repentance, at once they send up scent, and He brings them out from among the thorns, and the Community of Israel takes delight in them, as it is written, “Open to me, my sister, my love” (S. S. 5, 2). For as long as the lily is closed, it has no scent, and it does not rise from among the thorns, and its dwelling is among them, as has been said. And the Holy One, blessed be He, sent us on this road only to learn these words.
