Segment 1א׳

(תהילים ק״ד:ט״ו) וְיַיִן יְשַׂמַּח לְבַב אֱנוֹשׁ, דָּא יִינָא דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא. דְּהָכִי סָלִיק יַיִן, כְּחוּשְׁבַּן סוֹ"ד. וּמַה יַיִ"ן צָּרִיךְ לְמֶהֱוִי סָתִים וְחָתִים, דְּלָא יִתְנְסַּךְ לְעֲבוֹדָה זָרָה. אוּף הָכִי צָּרִיךְ לְמֶהֱוִי סָתִים וְחָתִים סוֹד דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, וְכָל רָזִין דִּילָהּ, וְלָא אִשְׁתַּקְיָין אֶלָּא לִירֵאָיו. וְלָאו לְמַגָנָא עַבְדִין כַּמָּה פִּקוּדִין בַּיַיִן, וּמְבָרְכִין בֵּיהּ לְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, וְיַיִן אִית לֵיהּ תְּרֵי גַּוְונִין, חִיוָּר וְסוּמָק, דִּינָא וְרַחֲמֵי, וְהַיְינוּ ב' תּוֹסֶפֶת בַּיַיִן. כְּגַוְונָא דְּשׁוֹשַׁנָּה חִיוָּרָא וְסוּמָקָא. חִוָּור מִסִּטְרָא דִּימִינָא, סוּמָק מִסִּטְרָא דִּשְׂמָאלָא.

“And wine that makes glad the heart of man” (Ps. 104, 15): this is the wine of the Torah. For thus yayin (wine) amounts to the number of sod (secret). And just as wine must be closed and sealed, that it not be poured as a libation to idolatry, so too the secret of the Torah must be closed and sealed, and all its mysteries; and they are given to drink only to those who fear Him. And not for nothing are many commandments performed with wine, and the Holy One, blessed be He, is blessed over it. And wine has two colours, white and red, judgement and mercy; and this is the Beth, the addition in be-yayin (with wine). As with the lily, white and red: white from the side of the right, red from the side of the left.

וּמַאי לְבַב אֱנוֹשׁ, לֵב הֲוָה לֵיהּ לְמֵימַר. אֶלָּא אִית לֵב מָסוּר לַלֵּב. וְאִינּוּן ל"ב אֱלֹהִים דְּעוֹבָדָא דִּבְרֵאשִׁית, ב' מִן בְּרֵאשִׁית, ל' מִן לְעֵינֵי כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל, אִיהוּ ל"ב תִּנְיָינָא. דָּא לֵ"ב לֵ"ב (ס"א אינון) שְׁנַיִם סַלְּקָא דַּעְתָּךְ, חֲסַר תְּמַנְיָא לְע"ב, דְּאִיהוּ וַיְכֻלּוּ. אִינּוּן שִׁבְעָה יְמֵי בְּרֵאשִׁית. תְּמִינָאָה מַאי הִיא. ז' יְמֵי בְּרֵאשִׁית, עִם (בראשית ה׳:א׳) זֶה סֵפֶר תּוֹלְדוֹת אָדָם. זֶה ע"ב, בְּחוּשְׁבָן בְּיַיִן.

And what is “the heart (levav) of man”? It should have said lev. Rather, there is a heart handed over to the heart. And these are the Lamed-Beth (thirty-two) Elohim of the work of creation: the Beth from Bereshit, the Lamed from “in the sight of all Israel” — this is the second Lamed-Beth. This is Lamed-Beth, Lamed-Beth (a variant reads: these are) — two, would you suppose? It lacks eight of seventy-two, which is “And were finished” (vaychulu). These are the seven days of creation. The eighth — what is it? The seven days of creation, with “This is the book of the generations of Adam” (Gen. 5, 1). “This” is seventy-two, by the reckoning of be-yayin.

מַאי לְהַצְּהִיל פָּנִים מִשָּׁמֶן. אִינּוּן י"ב פָּנִים, ד' דְּאַרְיִה, ד' דְּשׁוֹר, ד' דְּנֶשֶׁר, דְּאִינּוּן מִיכָאֵל אַרְיִה, אַרְבַּע אַנְפִּין דִּילֵיהּ יֶהוְֹ"ה. אַרְבַּע אַנְפִּין דְּשׁוֹר, וְאִיהוּ גַּבְרִיאֵל, וְאִינּוּן יַהוַֹ"ה. ד' אַנְפִּין דְּנֶשֶׁר, וְאִיהוּ נוּרִיאֵל, וְאִינּוּן יִהוְֹ"ה. וְאִינּוּן מְמָנָן, תְּחוֹת חֶסֶ"ד פַּחַ"ד אֶמֶ"ת, דַּרְגִּין דִּתְלַת אֲבָהָן. וְאוֹקְמוּהָ רַבָּנָן, הָאָבוֹת הֵן הֵן הַמֶרְכָּבָה. וְסַלְּקִין (ס"א נקודין) נְהוֹרִין לְחֻשְׁבָּן יַבֹּ"ק. וְאִינּוּן מֶלֶךְ מַלַךְ יִמְלוֹךְ, יְהוָֹ"ה אֶהְיְ"ה אֲדֹנָ"י. סַךְ הַכֹּל יַבֹּ"ק (רבי אבא ורבי יוסי שבע"ב שייך כאן).

What is [the meaning of] to brighten his face with oil (Psalms 104:15)? Those are the twelve faces, four of the lion, four of the ox, and four of the eagle. And they are: Michael, who is the lion, and his four faces are [the letters of God's four-letter name vocalized with a segol and a segol]; the four faces of the ox, and that is Gabriel, and they are [the letters of God's four-letter name vocalized with a patach and a patach]; the four faces of the eagle, and that is Nuriel, and they are [the letters of God's four-letter name vocalized with a chirik and a sheva]. And they are appointed under Kindness, Fear and Truth, the levels of the three forefathers. And the rabbis concluded about this [that] the forefathers are themselves the chariot. And [their] lights add up to "rule, ruled, will rule," which are [God's names of Existing, Will Be and Mastery], the numerical count of which is 112 [Yabok].
