And of her it is said, “a burnt-offering to the Lord”, “an offering to the Lord”, “a fire-offering to the Lord”; and it is said, “My offering, My bread for My fire-offerings”. But it is written that one may offer an offering only to the Lord — what then is “My offering, My bread for My fire-offerings”? Rather, it is the way of one who brings a gift: he brings it to the king, and afterwards the king distributes it to whom he wishes. So too Israel offer the Torah to the Holy One, blessed be He, which is His bread, and it is His wine, and it is His flesh; and of it it is said, “Bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh” (Gen. 2, 23). “Holy flesh” — of which the masters of the academies have explained: We are dealing with flesh that comes down from heaven.
