Section 63 of 63 in Pekudei — 18 segments
Segment 1
One day R. Eleazar was sitting before R. Simeon. R. Eleazar said: This “end of all flesh” — did it take pleasure from those offerings that Israel used to offer upon the altar, or not? He said to him: All were supplied together, above and below.
Segment 2
And observe: priests and Levites and Israelites, these are called Adam, in the joining of those holy desires that ascend from among them. And that lamb, or sheep, or that beast which they offer — before it is brought near upon the altar, there is need to set forth over it all sins, and all iniquities, and all evil thoughts that he has done. And then it is called a beast in everything, within those sins and evils and thoughts.
Segment 3
After the pattern of the offering of Azazel, as it is written “and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel,” (Lev. 16, 21) etc. — so too here. And when it ascends upon the altar, they reach it twofold. And therefore this one ascends to its place, and that one ascends to its place (folio 244b; folio 239a): this in the mystery of Adam, and that in the mystery of the beast, as it says “man and beast You save, O Lord.” (Ps. 36, 7)
