Ra'aya Meheimna (the Faithful Shepherd). A precept: to give the half-shekel by the shekel of the sanctuary. What is the half-shekel? It is like half a hin, and this is the Vau, the mean between the two Hes. The stone to weigh with — this is the Yod. “Twenty gerahs shall the shekel be” — this is Yod written in full. “The rich shall not give more” — this is the Central Column, which shall not add beyond ten. And so it is stated in the Sefer Yetzirah: ten sefirot belimah, ten and not eleven. “And the poor shall not give less” — this is the Righteous One, who shall not diminish from ten, as it says, ten and not nine. “From the half-shekel” — which is the Yod.
Segment 2
The Faithful Shepherd said to him: (an angel) you are in heaven; you are beloved of your Master. There is no wonder in all those precious words that come out of your mouth, for as to one who is a king, or a king’s son, it is no wonder that pearls come forth upon his table, full of treasures, full of lights. For another man it is a wonder. He said to him: Blessed are you, Faithful Shepherd. From here onward, you speak, for the supernal and the lower have come down to hear from you. He said to him: Complete your words. He said to him: There is nothing more to say now; you speak, until another time.
Segment 3
The Faithful Shepherd began: A precept after this one, to sanctify the new moon. For the holy moon is a bride, who is sanctified by the word of the court, which is gevurah (severity), because the Levites are there, of whom it is said, “And you shall sanctify the Levites.” And afterwards, when the moon appears so that men may benefit from her light, one blesses over her: “Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who by His word created the heavens, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.” And by whom is she sanctified and blessed? By tiferet (beauty), because it is “a crown of glory to those borne from the womb.” (End of Ra'aya Meheimna)
