The Zohar · Idra Rabba
Zohar, Idra Rabba 17
Section 17 of 52 in Idra Rabba — 7 segments
Segment 1
The seventh adornment. The hair ceases, and two apples are seen in the offering of spice, beautiful and fair to behold.
Segment 2
R. Simeon opened and said: “As an apple tree among the trees of the wood,” etc. (S. S. 2, 3). As this apple comprises three colours, so the Holy One, blessed be He — two apples comprise six colours. And these two apples, which are the seventh adornment, are the sum of all the six adornments of which I have spoken. And because of them there is fulfilled, “In the light of the king's countenance is life” (Prov. 16, 15).
Segment 3
And it has been taught: from these apples life goes out to the world, and they show joy to the Small of Countenance. It is written, “The Lord make His face to shine upon you” (Num. 6, 25); and it is written, “In the light of the king's countenance is life” (Prov. 16, 15). “In the light of the king's countenance” — these are the two apples of the offering of spice of which I have spoken. “The Lord make His face to shine upon you” — the face without, for when it shines the world is blessed.
