Segment 1א׳

(אמר אברהם המגיה להסיר מכשול מדרך המעיינים אשר לא הופיע עליהם עדין אור בקבלה השומע ישמע והמבין יבין כי כל המלות אשר הביא האלהי רשב"י בזה הספר הקדוש כגון מצחא דגולגלתא, שערי דרישא, חללי דמוחא, חוטמא דעתיקא, אודנין, ידין, ורגלין וזולתם מהכלים הגשמיים ותארים אחרים שתאר בהם ה' ית' ובפרט באדרא קדישא רבא ובאדרא קדישא זוטא כי באלו השני מקומות רבו התארים הללו, הלא המה מורים מדות וספירות וענינים פנמיים שכליים וכל האברים שבנו החכמים הללו הם לדמיון וסימנים לדברים סתומים ונעלמים לא לשום דבר גשמי וחמרי חלילה וחס כי אין דמיון בינו ית' וביננו בשום צד מהצדדים וכל שכן מצד העצם והתבנית ה' יצילנו משגיאות. אכי"ר.) האדרא רבא קדישא תַּנְיָא, אָמַר רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן לְחַבְרַיָּיא, עַד אֵימַת נֵיתִיב בְּקַיְּימָא דְּחַד סַמְכָא. כְּתִיב (תהילים קי״ט:קכ״ו) עֵת לַעֲשׂוֹת לַיְיָ הֵפֵרוּ תּוֹרָתֶךָ. יוֹמִין זְעִירִין, וּמָארֵי דְּחוֹבָא דָּחִיק. כָּרוֹזָא קָארֵי כָּל יוֹמָא, וּמְחַצְדֵּי חַקְלָא זְעִירִין אִינּוּן. וְאִינְהוּ בְּשׁוּלֵי (נ"א בשורי) כַּרְמָא. לָא אַשְׁגְּחָן, וְלָא יַדְעִין, לְאָן אֲתָר אָזְלִין כְּמָה דְּיָאוּת.

(Said Abraham the corrector, to remove a stumbling-block from the way of the students upon whom the light of the Kabbalah has not yet shone — let him who hears hear, and let him who understands understand: all the words that the divine R. Simeon ben Yohai brought in this holy book, such as “the forehead of the skull,” “the hairs of the head,” “the hollows of the brain,” “the nose of the Ancient One,” ears, hands and feet, and the rest of the bodily organs, and the other attributes with which he described God, blessed be He — and especially in the Great Holy Assembly and in the Lesser Holy Assembly, for in these two places such attributes abound — do they not indicate qualities and sefirot and inward, intellectual matters? And all the limbs of which these sages spoke are a likeness and signs for things closed and hidden, not for anything bodily or material, God forbid; for there is no likeness between Him, blessed be He, and us in any respect whatever, and all the more so in respect of essence and form. May God save us from errors. Amen, so may it be His will.) The Great Holy Assembly. It has been taught: R. Simeon said to the Companions: How long shall we sit in the state of a single pillar? It is written, “It is time for the Lord to work; they have made void Your law” (Ps. 119, 126). The days are few, and the master of the debt is pressing. A herald proclaims every day, and the reapers of the field are few, and they are at the edges (a variant reads: at the rows) of the vineyard; they do not take heed, and they do not know, as is fitting, to what place they are going.

Segment 2ב׳

אִתְכָּנָשׁוּ חַבְרַיָיא לְבֵי אִדָּרָא, מְלוּבָּשִׁין שַׁרְיָין סַיְיפֵי וְרוּמְחֵי בִּידֵיכוֹן, אִזְדְרָזוּ בְּתִקּוּנֵיכוֹן. בְּעֵיטָא, בְּחָכְמְתָא. בְּסוּכְלְתָנוּ. בְּדַעְתָּא. בְּחֵיזוּ. בְּיַדִין. בְּרַגְלִין (נ"א בחילא דידין ורגלין). אַמְלִכוּ עֲלֵיכוֹן לְמַאן (ס"א למלכא) דְּבִרְשׁוּתֵיהּ חַיֵּי וּמוֹתָא. לְמִגְזַר מִלִּין דִּקְשׁוֹט. מִלִּין דְּקַדִּישֵׁי עֶלְיוֹנִין צַיְיתֵי לְהוּ, וַחֲדָאן לְמִשְׁמַע לְהוּ, וּלְמִנְדַּע לְהוּ.

Assemble, Companions, at the house of the Assembly, clothed in coats of mail, with swords and spears in your hands. Be quick in your preparations: in counsel, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, in sight, in hands, in feet (a variant reads: in the strength of hands and feet). Make Him King over you (a variant reads: make the King reign over you) in whose authority are life and death, to decree words of truth — words to which the supernal holy ones listen, and rejoice to hear them and to know them.

Segment 3ג׳

יָתִיב רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וּבָכָה, וְאָמַר וַוי אִי גָּלֵינָא, וַוי אִי לָא גָּלֵינָא. חַבְרַיָיא דְּהֲוָה תַּמָּן אִשְׁתִּיקוּ. קָם רִבִּי אַבָּא וְאָמַר לֵיהּ, אִי נִיחָא קַמֵּיהּ דְּמֹר לְגַלָּאָה, הָא כְּתִיב (תהילים כ״ה:י״ד) סוֹד יְיָ לִירֵאָיו, וְהָא חַבְרַיָיא אִלֵּין דַחֲלִין דְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אִינּוּן, וּכְבַר עָאלוּ בְּאִדָרָא דְּבֵי מַשְׁכְּנָא, מִנְּהוֹן עָאלוּ, מִנְּהוֹן נַפְקוּ.

R. Simeon sat and wept, and said: Woe if I reveal, and woe if I do not reveal! The Companions who were there were silent. R. Abba rose and said to him: If it pleases the Master to reveal — it is written, “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him” (Ps. 25, 14); and these Companions fear the Holy One, blessed be He, and they have already entered the Assembly of the House of the Tabernacle: some of them entered, and some of them went out.
