Segment 1

Ra'aya Meheimna (the Faithful Shepherd). “And it shall come to pass, because you listen to these ordinances,” etc.; “and you shall eat and be satisfied, and you shall bless the Lord your God,” etc. This precept (18): to bless the Holy One, blessed be He, for all that a man eats and drinks and enjoys in this world. And if he does not bless, he is called a robber toward the Holy One, blessed be He, as it is written, “He who robs his father and his mother” (Prov. 28, 24); and the Companions have explained it. For the blessings with which a man blesses the Holy One, blessed be He, come to draw life from the source of life to the holy Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, and to pour upon it from that supernal oil, and come to be drawn from there to the whole world.

Segment 2

And it is written, “And you shall eat and be satisfied, and you shall bless the Lord your God.” And those blessings a man pours out, by those words, from that supernal source; and all those grades and sources are blessed and are filled, to pour upon all the worlds. And they are all blessed together.

Segment 3

And therefore a man must set his desire upon the mystery of the blessings, so that the Patriarchs and the sons may all be blessed as one. And whoever blesses the Holy One, blessed be He, is blessed, and takes his portion of those blessings before all the world below. Once the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, is blessed from there, the first portion descends and rests upon his head. And we have explained that it is written, “In every place where I cause My name to be mentioned I will come to you and bless you” (Ex. 20, 21). (“I cause to be mentioned” — as it says, “May He remember all your meal-offerings” (Ps. 20).) Once that blessing comes and rests upon his head, from there it spreads out into the whole world.
